I had the idea of them doing a three night event somewhere in the wide open like how music festivals do. Friday-NXT, Saturday-SmackDown, Sunday-RAW

No way WWE is going to fill up a stadium two nights in a row unless they go about it in a way that costs them huge dollars. Go back to arena shows? A 20,000 seat arena for three nights (nXt) makes 60,000. I actually want them to go the WM 2 route. Maybe NYC, Chicago, LA and Honolulu.

Even then they kept it under four hours. Presently, the issue is with WWE's obsession with drawing in the casuals. The "experience" has become more important than the purpose for that experience. Wrestlemania has ceased to be about the wrestling. Now it's about the musical guests, the set design (Is a roller-coaster along the perimeter of the stadium really adding that much value?), the Axxess event, the meaningless marketing that lacks any information about the card until, maybe, the week or two prior to the day. Wrestlemania 2 was first announced in September 1985 and the card was pretty near set in stone by the end of January 1986; most of the early Wrestlemania bookings had similar turnaround times. All of the booking decisions for the runup to the early WMs were based on how the card was set up for WM; the SNME's featured the main combatants not facing each other, but either the heel's stablemate or tag teams were in singles competition or there'd be some tease at the actual match without the actual match taking place. Nowadays, the card isn't settled until maybe a week or two before and, in some cases, matches aren't announced until the go-home show - far too late for the wrestling to be a selling-point for anybody, really. Contrast this with the buzz going into WK12. The cynic in me thinks that they don't do that level of planning anymore because they know what's on offer wrestling-wise isn't going to go over well. Reigns vs. Lesnar will happen, goddamnit, but the fans don't want it so we can't really advertise on that. Watch: Balor wins the Rumble, challenges for the Universal title to make the main event a three-way dance, then wins it all either via quick roll-up pin (a la Bret Hart from Survivor Series 1995) or a crossface or similar submission move (a la Benoit Bob Holly at WMXX) or getting some help (unbeknownst to Finn) from the Good Brothers (a la Savage via Hogan at WMIV.) That's totally something they'd have as a backup plan so they don't get the crowd streaming out of the place before the main event. But, back to the topic, what kept the early shows high-value was the number of quick, short matches (the Broadways were saved for the major, _major_ feuds and the main event), the truncated entrances (especially for the curtain-jerkers), and generally prioritizing which matches get the full video package. Backstage interviews (especially with Gene) often eliminated the need for the video packages and kept things fresh while offering that final build. Finally, I'd eliminate the Kickoff Show: if it's good enough for the Kickoff Show, it's good enough for the main card. Have the crowd in the venue, seated and ready to go _before_ you turn the cameras on.
