It's surprising, but I have lately been putting over the 205Live commentary as the Best of Current Times. It's probably a fringe (lunatic) opinion, so I put the title as a question lol
Yes, even better than Mauro/Nigel/Percy on NXT. I really like Vic Joseph's progression into a non-Cole-clone pbp guy with Nigel kinda steering him to call moves correctly and emphatically. I was impressed despite a horrible New Year's edition of 205Live, that commentary kept things interesting, and really it's because of how obvious Vic is by trying to call moves accurately and impressively, and almost always looking to Nigel for an 'attaboy' after said call. At first, it's just kinda cute (in a shiny new rookie doing rookie stuff because he's green) but then when Vic makes a spot on call for Alexander's reverse twisting-modified-neckbreaker when even Nigel couldn't find the words to describe Cedric's move, then it becomes pretty damn entertaining to watch unfold live how much better Vic gets week to week trying to catch up to the modified moveset of the CWC.
The WOCT is honestly SDLive before 205, specifically Corey Graves and Byron Saxton's mirthless feud. Even if they have kayfabe beef it should be displayed in a way that's funny or entertaining, but currently their feud just feels ugly and uncomfortable, and certainly in the way of calling the great in-ring action at the very least. Maybe swap Booker and Byron, I think Cole can handle the Byron/Graves feud better than Phillips. Who are your BOCT/WOCT for 2017?

Easily but that's not much of an accomplishment when you've got the chucklef***s on Raw and SmackDown and you've got Mauro seeing how many pointless references he can cram into everything in NXT while Percy Watson mostly sits there silently.
Still, 205 Live commentary is consistently very good, it's not just a win by default.

I haven't had the Network lately so I haven't been able to watch 205 Live, but Vic and Nigel are far and away my favorite team in the company.

In WWE the SD commentary is my favourite...Graves buries Byron every chance he gets and then Byron buries himself further and it is always a joy.
Favourite overall is striker and vamp in LU.

Nigel is my least favourite announcer in WWE. He saps the heat and excitement from all but the best matches and angles with his monotone. On the rare occasion I watch TNA or LU I have to mute it as they're both intolerable to me. NJPW I watch the Japanese comms. I prefer NXT, even with f***ing Percy. At least Percy sounds like he cares

But I really enjoy him and Mauro, lack of excitement from one balances out for the other maybe?

I would desperately want a Mauro/Heyman or Mauro/Punk partnership.

Vic and Nigel are easy listening, which is pretty much the best you can hope for from main roster WWE, especially when the alternatives are Booker's noise pollution and Byron's obviously-fed dumbassery.
If only that "bar buddy" bullshit would go the way of the dodo...

Maybe it’s a British thing, but his commentary style and tone reminds me of British commentary on, y’know, actual sports (that I don’t watch, so maybe I’m wrong). Graves and Nigel are my two favourite guys behind the desk right now.

Graves and Nigel are my two favourite guys behind the desk right now. I watch a good amount of sport in the UK, and he's nothing like what I hear. He's so monotone and unenthusiastic like it doesn't matter what he says. Shelton Benjamin back in his first run had what I called 'the Shelton effect'. It didn't matter what he did, he could have done a 720 phoenix splash off a burning 90 foot ladder and he would have still been boring because of his lack of charisma. Nigel suffers from the same thing when it comes to speaking.
