What was the deal with this? Was it to help elevate Vampiro or something? He teamed with Sting for a bit, and then feuded with him, which resulted in that infamous "Human Torch match." I know Sting was not chasing after the world title at that point and he had already been an established star for about a decade up to that point. What was up with that? I have nothing against Vampiro, by the way. It's just that he was a mid-carder in WCW who was in a program with one of WCW's biggest stars, when prior to that, he was in angles involving ICP or The Misfits. Hell, even after that feud with Sting, he feuded with The Demon.

I think it was designed to build him up as a legit competitor in WCW. He was already getting face pops from the audience even though he was booked as a heel, and putting him in a program with one of the top guys with tenure in the company should have gotten him even more over. Best they could do was just keep pairing him up or having him feud with other guys with face paint, a one day WCW Tag Team Champion reign with Great Muta, and then quietly released while home with an injury. They really dropped the ball with him I felt, and he was what got me back into watching wrestling after not having watched it since the Rock 'N Wrestling Connection era.

I mean I liked it but Sting beat him every single time they went against each other and despite the cool look he just looked outclassed by Sting
They should have done more shit like the graveyard stuff tho
I believe OSW Review talked about it in one their episodes, might have been during the David Arquette trilogy

I loved that shit at the time. "Brothers in Paint". And then their rivalry..this was also around the time they were trying to elevate some younger talent. I was a huge Vampiro mark at the time. For the record, as of late, Vampiro talks a lot of shit about this angle and how it failed in recent years shoots.

Sting was monster over and always is, Vampiro was gaining ground at getting over with Sting than they turned him. Vamprio just wasn't on the same level as Sting and it showed.

When Sting entered the arena he looked and acted like a Star which is why I never got from Vampiro and it didn't help that once they got in the ring, the "magic" off Vampiro just faded away If they did more things like the graveyard stuff(not the burning man shit) than it probably would have come across a lot better and made Vampiro look like a killer
