I was thinking, what if instead of the way Sting was booked in WWE, they had a Sting/Steve Borden dualism. I always saw modern day Sting and his avenger of justice role similar to that of Batman. I think having both Sting and Steve Borden in the storyline would have been much better than the crap we got.
Sting could come out as Steve Borden, complete with black suit and shades when cutting promos on Raw. Then, when it came time to wrestle, he became Sting. It would a great way to do something different with him and freshen up his persona.

I still hope we get paintless Sting as a manager or authority figure.

If I recall, they did that in TNA in 2006 where he was billed as Steve Borden with no facepaint appearing at the (I think) Destination X PPV to confront Jeff Jarrett after they had Alex Shelley stalking his kids while they were playing football.

I'm not sure why after holding out for so long, he walked into a losing proposition like that. The older fans were disappointed and the younger fans saw some old guy that couldn't win the big one.
Sure, the money was probably good, but it was a pointless part of his legacy.

I still hope we get paintless Sting as a manager or authority figure. Like Orton could be his best ally? Oh....paintless.

I still hope we get paintless Sting as a manager or authority figure. This is Steve Borden managing Nick Nemeth talking to Paul Levesque! Sorry, I can't resist...

Just a reminder of how good Sting was, he steamrolled everyone as I recall.

I still remember some guy they brought into TNA calling Sting "Real Estate Steve" because he knew him from his real estate ventures and not as a wrestler.

I still hope we get paintless Sting as a manager or authority figure. Oh, god. I read that as “pantless Sting.” Then I realised that would be even better. Just Steve with his shades and receding hair, wandering around in a sports jacket, tie and loafers, with just his boxers covering his modesty, acting as if everything is perfectly normal.

Sure, the money was probably good, but it was a pointless part of his legacy. I wasn't disappointed at all and i'm a massive Sting fan. My nephew who's 13 years old now has Sting posters on his wall. The win/loss is a small part of what makes up an entire program in the position he was in. In regards to the op's idea, are you thinking pretty similar to Finn Balor? Definitely thinking Sting is retired from in ring competition either way.

How this managed not to happen in TNA is confusing.

Sure, the money was probably good, but it was a pointless part of his legacy. I think he just felt like it was near the end, and he should go have a few matches in Vince's house just to say a proper goodbye to the fans. I don't think he planned on retiring after two matches, but he was almost certainly on his way out. We see it a lot, even with current guys. They all know the stories, and they all know how awful WWE can treat the talent, but it's still the biggest game in town at the moment, and a lot of guys want to just be able to say they were there once.
