Mark Henry Officially Retires From WWE

Mark Henry hasn’t been a full-time wrestler for the WWE in over a year, and last appeared at WrestleMania 33 in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. There was confusion as to whether or not Henry was retired for good, until recently.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), is reporting that Henry is in fact retired as a wrestler, which is hardly surprising. The World’s Strongest Man only had two matches last year, outside of the WrestleMania Battle Royal. In 2016, he was used mainly in mid-card matches against Epico, Rusev and Titus O’Neil – helping put them over.

I wanted to see Big Mark get one last sendoff at like say WM or something. If not then cool but either way I've enjoyed his career. He's a future HoF, definitely.

Man, I hated Mark Henry when I got into wrestling. He was so bland and somewhat overpushed. This was 1999 European Champion phase.

I thought he was the dullest villain ever in 2003.

I thought he was the wrong man for a great push in 2006/7.

I... loved how happy he was to win the ECW title in 2008, but otherwise... zzzz.

2009 had a decent tag team run with MVP. Also that awesome Orton segment.

Then suddenly in 2011, everything came together and Big Mark suddenly became amazing, and had more good to great matches from 2011 to 2014 than he had in the previous 20 goddamn years.

Good luck Mark Henry. Proof that sometimes someone can just put all the tools together even if it takes them forever to get there.

I really wish they would've done one last big match with him.

Like, an Elimination Chamber of Monsters. Lesnar v Taker v Kane v Henry v Big Show v Strowman. Just one last big man battle before all of those guys retire in the next year or two (sans Strowman, obviously).

I kind of want him to return for one night only to take the title off Cena in reference to that great moment and then retire the next night.

Man, such a weird career. Didn't really hit his stride until he was deep in the back half of it, which is strange. But I've never seen him come off as anything less than a nice guy, so here's hoping he gets moved into a cushy agent gig.

Fun fact, he's been in more Wrestlemania Day battle royals (including pre-show ones) than anyone in history. But he's never won one.

Still hoping he's in this year's Andre and wins it.
