I actually reviewed Red Son for the FAN site years ago. It's a novel concept with some sharp artwork, and I do genuinely enjoy the first three quarters or so.
But that ending is hot flaming trash.

It's one I've long wondered why they weren't doing, though I can't claim to be personally that enthusiastic about it. Then again that goes for most of that line of animated movies honestly. Some like Under the Red Hood and Superman vs. The Elite are classics but it's been a long time since there's been one that was particularly good and even in their can't-do-wrong days a lot of them like Gotham Knight and Wonder Woman are meh at best. Flashpoint & Dark Knight Returns* are definitely up there as the best It's ever since flashpoint they've poor (Assault on Arkham aside) * How they did this right but not Killing Joke just boggles the mind

Bruce Timm wants to know how he can make another daughter figure sleep with Batman. Bruce Timm is an old creep who should go live in shame somewhere that I can't hear his name. If they could, DC in general would make the world sleep with Batman.

2 pages in and I am still wondering what made Bruce Timm snap?

It's a good story that I actually enjoyed until that ending which is in the WTF territory and for those who don't have a time to read it I would recommend listening to Comicsexplained

The production of Superman: Red Son will end with Timm collapsing after reading the following message in a manila envelope: {Spoiler}

Midway through he bangs Batgirl and Harley Quinn in a three way for no apparent reason.
f*** off, Timm.

2 pages in and I am still wondering what made Bruce Timm snap? Nothing, he was always a gross old creep, we just didn't realize until he ruined the Killing Joke movie and hid behind Brian Azzarello.

I mean they made reference in Batman Beyond that Barbara and Bruce were romantic but that was quick and it was almost played as a joke.

Outside of, what, one really misguided animation plot line, is there anything else? Because people are trying to compare him to a man who wanted to write Batman vs. Terrorism and then did as “Holy Terror” and that’s...dude, no.

Was it a dumb decision for the Barbara/Batman stupidity yes, but I wouldn't attach "creep" to his name like that nor have I heard anything nefarious tied to his name unless I haven't been listening

DC should rework the plot. Superman's pod lands in Iran in the 1980's instead of Kansas where he's adopted by the Ayatollah and he grows up as an Islamic fundamentalist, which shifts the power balance in the world and turns Iran into a global superpower just by Superman's presence alone.

Bruce Timm will show Batman having sex instead of fighting Russian Superman. Or Superman bending over for sex with Batman. (But really, one unneeded scene destroys 15-20 years of work? Wow...) Timm has been a douche to fans at cons for decades now. Saw him at a con in 2000. It was a long line. He wouldn't even look up at whoever was talking to him. Would give one word answers and tried his best to avoid talking to anyone. Talking to various people that have tables at lots of cons, seems Timm is well known for not giving a crap about fans. All he wants is their money. He has been living off the goodness that was Batman TAS for what close to 30 years now.

The thing about Bruce Timm is that he usually works better with limitations. When his cartoons were on Fox and KidsWB and he had executives telling him "no, you can't do this and you can't do that" he would come up with creative ways to get around those restrictions and gave us more interesting stories because of it. When Justice League was on Cartoon Network and they weren't on his case as much, the stories kinda suffered for it at first. Yeah, he got things together and gave us a great cartoon over-all, but that first season was pretty bad at times. And now that he's doing these DTV movies with free reign, he's just kinda running with the first idea he gets. When he's thinking "can I do it?" and not "should I do it?" and it really kills his creative output.

For example, Seth MacFarlane & Everett Peck made atrocious kid cartoons on Cartoon Network (in Seth's case, it was during the Cartoon Institute days) where they had lots of restrictions, while John Krifouski killed his career when given free reign in Adult Party Show. Some people need restrictions to channel their creativity, while others flat out suck at that & need freedom. Timm is the former.

It's funny, most of those comments about Timm eauate to why I have never liked Harley Quinn after BTAS. Literally all of that applies to her.

This could be great, especially if loyal to the source material. Red Son was a heckuva story at the time, and still holds up. In current times........a curious choice, and that almost makes it even more watchable. Or Superman bending over for sex with Batman. (But really, one unneeded scene destroys 15-20 years of work? Wow...) Idk Batman and Harley Quinn was pretty bad. I think he'd do supes well. Batman and Harley was fine enough, but being hyped as "a B:TAS anniversary film" was absolutely foolish. The movie featured a scene where Harley is farting in the Batmobile and it's being played BY THE GODDAMN KEVIN CONROY BATMAN as a comical scene - funny in another kind of Batman movie, but no one associated with B:TAS should've ever had their name or talent attached to that.

Yeah really...even on the JL Action series, which leans towards being for kids while being somewhat sophisticated, Conroy is treated better. /BTW, JLA is very good for what it is, check it out.
