Why so much hate No Mercy reign so much. Cena's injury snuck up on them late, and they really had to think of something fast. Orton losing then exercising his rematch clause was good way to get that cheap heel heat. At the very least, it was understandable.

There's ways to get heat outside of pointless bait and switches. Prior to this event, the world title only changed hands twice in one night on two occasions. Now? It seems like it's happened at least ten times. It's a f***ing joke.

the one that pissed me off was when he beat Orton in less than a month in 04. Took the wind out of his sails. Reign of terror was bad, for the length of it. Rumble 16 didn't really piss me off because injuries put them in a tough spot. He wasn't supposed to have it and he wouldn't have booked himself to win it if the roster was healthier. I was 13 when HHH beat Orton in 2004, but that was the moment when I was like, "f*** this I'm done watching regularly."

Will come back later to assess the reigns but the opinion on Orton losing it to him in 2004 has really changed online. Way back when, most people were dead against Orton because he was bombing as a face.

Say what you want, but the period where often 'My Time' would play over the end of the show, with HHH often being assisted to the back, was a great period.

Way back when, most people were dead against Orton because he was bombing as a face. Yeah, the Orton main event face run was bombing hard. He wasn't really ready for it and they didn't give anyone a reason to cheer him other than I was a complete asshole but people who thought were my friends attacked me... so now you guys should love me.

Reign No. 1: (WWE Title) Raw after SummerSlam - Triple H vs. Mankind, Aug. 23, 1999 He'd probably earned a crack with the title by this point, he'd been doing good heel work throughout the summer and it was something new. Should have just won it at SummerSlam though if it wasn't for backstage politics. Count - Agreed with: 1, Disagreed with: 0.Reign No. 2: (WWE Title) Unforgiven 1999 - Six Pack Challenge: Triple H vs. The Rock vs. the British Bulldog vs. Big Show vs. Mankind vs. Kane, Sept. 26, 1999 HHH shouldn't have lost the title to Vince in-between these reigns, I would have been fine with him holding it in general but this reign shouldn't have really happened the way it did. Count - Agreed with: 1, Disagreed with: 1.Reign No. 3: (WWE Title) Triple H vs. Big Show, Jan. 3, 2000 I've always been a Big Show fan but this title run was going nowhere and H was the no.1 heel in the company. Count - Agreed with: 2, Disagreed with: 1.Reign No. 4: (WWE Title) Judgment Day 2000 - Triple H vs. The Rock Iron Man Match, May 21, 2000 Didn't hurt much really but I'm not a fan of trading the title back and forth. Rock should have just won it at Mania and kept it. Count - Agreed with: 2, Disagreed with: 2.Reign No. 5: (WWE Title) WrestleMania X8 - Triple H vs. Chris Jericho, March 17, 2002 He'd just returned from injury as a hot babyface, regardless of the terrible buildup to the match and the fact it was completely overshadowed by Hogan/Rock, there was nothing wrong with him winning the title here. Count - Agreed with: 3, Disagreed with: 2.Reign No. 6: (World Heavyweight Title) - Handed the title by Eric Bischoff, Sept. 2, 2002 The way he got it was awful, but I completely understand making him champion at this time when a lot of guys were coming and going, it was a very transitional time for WWE. Count - Agreed with: 4, Disagreed with: 2.Reign No. 7: (World Heavyweight Title) - Armageddon 2002 - Three Stages of Hell: Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels, Dec. 15, 2002 Similar to the Rock/HHH feud, not a fan of just switching the title needlessly. Count - Agreed with: 4, Disagreed with: 3.Reign No. 8: (World Heavyweight Title) - Armageddon 2003 - Triple H vs. Kane vs. Goldberg, Dec. 14, 2003 Everyone was sick of HHH holding the title by this point but with Goldberg leaving the company there wasn't a lot of options to take the title heading into Mania so reluctantly I agree with this reign. Count - Agreed with: 5, Disagreed with: 3.Reign No. 9: (World Heavyweight Title) - Unforgiven 2004 - Triple H vs. Randy Orton, Sept. 12, 2004 The first of his real bullshit reigns, cutting Orton's legs off like this. No need at all. Count - Agreed with: 5, Disagreed with: 4.Reign No. 10: (World Heavyweight Title) - New Year’s Revolution - Elimination Chamber: Triple H vs. Randy Orton vs. Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho vs. Batista vs. Edge, Jan. 9, 2005 More bullshit. HHH holds title, title gets vacated, HHH wins title back anyway. So unnecessary. Count - Agreed with: 5, Disagreed with: 5.Reign No. 11: (WWE Title) - No Mercy 2007 - Triple H vs. Randy Orton, Oct. 7, 2007 It had been a while since his last run with the strap and Triple H as a face was still somewhat fresh. And considering the very tricky position they'd been put in with Cena's injury, they did what they had to to make people feel they'd got their money's worth. I won't judge WWE harshly for this one. Count - Agreed with: 6, Disagreed with: 5.Reign No. 12 (WWE Title) - Backlash 2008 - Fatal 4 Way Elimination Match: Triple H vs. Randy Orton vs. John Cena vs. JBL, Apr. 27, 2008 After the previous quickie run, he pretty much had to get another title reign at this point. This should have been his last hurrah though as champion. Count - Agreed with: 7, Disagreed with: 5.Reign No. 13 (WWE Title) - No Way Out 2009 - Elimination Chamber: Triple H vs. Vladimir Kozolv vs. Undertaker vs. Big Show vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Edge, Feb. 16, 2009 Face HHH had already become stale and the WWE title was changing hands every month at this point. Top it off with this leading to him beating Orton in the wrong move (again!), this reign gets a big fat no from me. Count - Agreed with: 7, Disagreed with: 6.Reign No. 14 (WWE Title) - Royal Rumble 2016 - Royal Rumble Match Winner for WWE Title, Jan. 24, 2016 Triple H as world champion in 2016? Come on now. Count - Agreed with: 7, Disagreed with: 7.So in summary, you could have lopped off at least half of his title reigns and nothing of value would be lost. With better booking you could probably get rid of even more than that.
