No surprise debut/return at the Royal Rumble will ever match AJ's in 2016. But if WWE absolutely insists on having a returning or debuting superstar this year, Lashley might be their best bet for a decent pop.

Lashley was a weird, mostly well-booked anomaly in TNA, and I'm not saying WWE has worse booking than TNA because that's going too far, but I don't see WWE keeping up the same things that have made him special. His whole deal has been "if Lesnar was booked sensibly and well" and that requires a certain level of push and booking commitment that I don't really see WWE having room for right now on either main show. Also I worry this might be another Kevin Nash kind of thing where Vince used him wrong, he got over big being something else, eventually came back into the fold and Vince lapsed into his old ways again.

I'd be willing to bet actual dollars that if they did this, they wouldn't f*** up the camera angle showing Roman's dumbass face this time.

Yea, nobody will top AJ unless Daniel Bryan somehow got healthy Lashley would be somebody to consider for the Rumble even if you aren't talking a contract right now, just to see how the audience reacts to him after all this time

Yea, spot on points It's weird to think that if you can say TNA/Impact did something well over WWE is make Lashley a credible champion and a world beater. Even when he took L's to people like Eddie Edwards it didn't hurt his aura His whole thing as you said is "If Lesnar was booked sensibly and well" and full time. Yes, they were doing taping schedules but genuinely he performed and none of his matches were slouches It's not like he needs someone to speak for him anymore either because his shit talking game is on point too

They had him lose to f***ing Eddie Edwards and had dire shit like the EC3 "press conference" brawl, but Lashley was good enough to shine on through all of that. But it's also an environment where nobody cared and he was able to talk all his shit and do his own promos. The worry is definitely a matter of whether he'd be allowed to be himself in the sterile, scripted environment of WWE.

He'll be like a lot of bring ins: brought in hot, and then made to eat shit for a little bit. If he can get through that, they'll definitely make the most of him.

If you ask him to read off a cue card, you're probably screwed because as much as his mic skills has improved to become a strength, even the best struggle with that The biggest thing is you would have to make him seem like a big f***ing deal really fast and not just another member of the roster. A good comparison will be someone if they have him on a path of someone like Samoa Joe who f***s shit up and hurts people. If you're talking giving him an immediate impact and reaction than have him wreck Cena after Mania, do a little feud and then send him packing for a few months again. Now what you do after that, who knows but it be a big step forward

Ass kicking, head band Lashley is the best Lashley.
I want to see him back in the WWE, but they’ll probably bring him in too hard, too fast, before Roman, Brock, Cena and some others body him so that he knows his place type stuff. He’ll probably beat AJ and some other favorites though. In short the typical wonky WWE booking.

It’s weird that Impact’s deals don’t have the same clause that Lucha Underground’s have where your no-compete runs until your last appearance on TV rather than your last date.
Conceivably, Lashley and EC3 will be on WWE and Impact TV concurrently for months since the latest Impact tapings run until late April.
