Too bad for me - loved the guy in both NJPW and Lucha Underground, going to miss him badly in both, and miss watching his work in general. Hope he makes tons of money, though, the guy is probably the best high flyer going and could definitely transcend 205 Live if given the chance. This is clearly something he's wanted to do for years, and now he gets his chance, just sucks I won't be watching it. I wouldn't bank on Ospreay making the jump any time soon; beyond his NJPW contract (something Ricochet never signed), the guy relocated to Australia, both to be in the same hemisphere as NJPW and to work to grow the indie scene there. Not to say he would never go to WWE, but he seems pretty committed to his current track. He hasn't wrestled in Australia since last August, I'm not sure if he went through with the relocation entirely. He's been working in the UK for most of January, barring his WK appearance. And far as I know, it’s his intended plan for the next year so it’s a long term thing. Now what that means for his bookings later on, who knows?

"Prior to the Best of the Super Junior tournament, there was concern over Will Ospreay having nagging injury issues at the age of 23. According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, here is a breakdown of what Ospreay has been dealing with after four years in the wrestling business… Two slipped discs in his back Seven concussions A shoulder that is prone to separation Two fractured heels Sciatica that is causing numbness in his foot" And the guy is still super young. Probably couldn't cope with WWE schedule How the hell does he manage to do all his flippy shit with those kinda problems?!

The fact that they put his real name have me worried he may be subject to the dreaded name generator.

The fact that they put his real name have me worried he may be subject to the dreaded name generator. What’s Bankshot doing in NXT?

The fact that they put his real name have me worried he may be subject to the dreaded name generator. To be fair, they do that with everyone, even the ones who end up using their ring names in NXT.

He's going to be renamed as Rick O'Shea and have an Irish stereotype gimmick.

The fact that they put his real name have me worried he may be subject to the dreaded name generator. Not to mention, most of the NXT types make up their own list of names they'd be willing to accept. And then WWE picks the worst one off of that list.

Again...
I'm just worried because now, more than any other time in recent, WWE's mentality seems to be 'we need to have this person!' rather than 'how are we going to use this person?'
And no one cares about 205 Live. Neville changed that a little bit, but I feel like any interest he cultivated evaporated with his exit and the realization that the cruiserweight division is the Hotel California of wrestling.

He is way too good for 205 Live. IMO, the best signing since AJ. I also don't mind a name change, he's as much Prince Puma as he is Ricochet to me. And the names have been getting better since it seems Haitch has been in charge of helping develop them.
Can't wait!

God, I wanna be excited about this. If you watch a Ricochet match and imagine that guy in NXT or WWE, it is absolutely exciting. But, what are the odds he'll have even a small amount of the freedom he has on the indies? Ricochet is not shy about using whatever moves look the most impressive at the time, and if it means dipping into other people's movesets, that's fine. On the indies, that works. In WWE, it always feels like you get a list of moves that you're allowed to do and you aren't allowed to deviate from that list, unless your name is AJ Styles whose moves are less about what the are and more how they're executed.
Since he's starting in NXT, I have no doubt there will be a lot more ability for him to be his true self, if not in slightly truncated form... but especially at Takeovers where he'll probably be a part of at least one MOTY contender this year. However, once he gets to the main roster, or 205 Live.... I mean, how much talent do they have and what do they do with it? Very little.
I haven't looked into the details of his contract, but I kinda hope it's a shorter length one. If they managed to do right by him, I have no problem with him staying and finishing his career in WWE. However, if this turns into a situation where he's super limited or they have no clear direction for him to go in... it'll be much better for him to get out and sign a long-term contract with NJPW.

Welp, he's gonna be the new king of 205 Live. And that'll be his ceiling. Not because he's not good enough, but because he'll be hit with the "cruiserweight" label, and never be able to get out from under it.

Is there any difference between a WWE schedule, and the schedule of a top Indy performer? Quite a bit. Keep in mind that with most indies, the guys are expected to show up an hour or two before the show and head off as soon as it's done. WWE workers often have all-day deals where they're at the arena for 6-9 hours. Then there's the bouncing around they have to do for promotional appearances, non-arena filming (if needed), and a bevy of other things that keep them tied up. How long till Tessa signs? Cause you know she's going to be signed. I wouldn't be so certain of that.

I hope he makes a ton of money in spite of the company inevitably not knowing what to do with him and f***ing him up completely
