More to the point, why was he wearing Hogan wristbands?

Did they acknowledge that he was Iron Sheik, he was WWF champion, 5 or six years earlier, tag champ more recently.

I guessed it's some sort of a muscle-stretching exercise.

Prime Time Wrestling would either re-air matches from Superstars/Challenge or show them 5 days earlier with Mooney/Hayes or Monsoon/Hayes calling them. It was common in WCW, too.

It's one of the keys to being able to do the swinging of the Persian Clubz gimmick.

Same episode also shows that they did call "The Dragon" Ricky Steamboat too.

Regarding the march he took up when he started the Mustafa gimmick, it was Sheik's exaggerated take on the actual Iraqi soldier march. At least at that point in time, Iraqi army marches had the lines swinging their right arm high in the air with every other step, swinging it down with the alternate steps. Not sure of they did this with the left arm too, as the only marching footage I've found so far has the soldiers resting a rifle on their shoulder with their left hand/arm.

Point is, unlike the popular story, they did not totally erase his past. I also remember a WWF Magazine article mentioning his Mania 3 match when reintroducing him.
