When Heenan died, we had the whole thread having how Bobby would commentate modern WWE.
Ignoring any political leanings or anything like that, I was more often a fan of Ventura because he could balance humor with serious a bit better.
So...besides treating Cole worse than he treated Vince on air, who would you want to hear 80s heel commentator Ventura comment on?

Ventura: Oh Seth has a problem with Jordan, with what he did with the Bar? Didn't he, Dean and Roman run roughshod over people? Underhanded tactics, In the name of Justice?

I just want him commentating with Cole. The best part of Ventura was him making face commentators work for there biased opinions.

We were lucky to have him come back when he guest hosted Raw 8 years back or so to commentate on that battle royal featuring that generation of new guys. I recall a lot of criticism of he & Vince that night, but I thought he was quite good and it was a great callback of their heyday in the '80s.

That's the one thing I really miss about Ventura's commentary, he was never afraid to call things as they were when need arose. While the current announcers either quietly ignore Roman's negative crowd reactions or merely try to pass it all of as Roman being "controversial", Jesse would flat out acknowledge that crowds hate him. |

I loved how even though Ventura was a heel there were some babyfaces that he couldn't bring himself to heel on and was clearly a fan of. He always used to put over Bret Hart and Macho Man even if they were babyface as incredible wrestlers.
It made him seem slightly more real as a character. Somehow it never came across as him being inconsistent, he was still obviously a heel but he just respected a select few faces.
