Has anybody seen the director's cut of it? I heard that it is inferior to the theatrical cut.

I'd say it's a modern classic along with Step Brothers.

Tropic Thunder is one of those near classics to me. It almost feels like the film slightly cops out and could have been an all time great dark comedy, but for it to really get to that point they needed a more cynical ending. They really needed to have them all just die so Les Grossman could make all the money the way he wanted off their names. It was a go for broke comedy that just kind of pulled its punches at the end.

I'll never forget people getting up and leaving during the film.

I've only seen it once, and that was when it was released. I liked it from a satire standpoint, I liked RDJ being in character the whole time, I loved the line along the lines of 'We're six months behind schedule and we've only been here two weeks!', it was just a positive experience all round. I think I'd still like it ten years on too.

A lot of it was really funny, but it just swerves into a not particularly good action movie at the end. And is the kid being the leader of the villains meant to be funny? Because I don't understand what makes that funny.
However, it has a lot of great satire in it. The fake movie trailers at the start are hilarious, and as someone who doesn't like the 'hard r' being used as an insult, the 'never go full retard' speech is a pretty ruthless bit of Oscar satire too. Plus Tom Cruise is fearless in that movie.

I remember being shocked at the first part of this when I saw it in theaters, until the trailers started, then I was like "Ohhh, I see what they are doing."

This movie was so much better than it had any right to be. I thought it would, at most, be a middle-of-the-road comedy. It ended up being one of the funniest movies since the turn of the century.

One of my favorites. Has aged beautifully in my opinion, still a great satire of the industry.

My favorite part is when Stiller is drinking the blood out of what he thinks is a prop head.
"They have no fear of death."

I have gotten yelled at for this, but......
Robert Downey Jr. should have beaten Heath Ledger for the Oscar.
