T-Shirt worn: Kenta Kobashi
Strong Style Tag Team Match
Chris Dickinson & Eddie Kingston vs. Kobe Durst & Josh Alexander
This match was really f***ing good. Like, really good. Eddie Kingston and Josh Alexander did a great job of wailing on their opponents but the guy who impressed me the most was Chris Dickenson. I’ve never heard of him but the guy was intense, intimidating and hit really f***ing hard, plus upon researching him on the Internet I found out he uses the Diplomat by Pig Destroyer as his entrance music! Kobe Durst really was just there to serve as a punching bag but I’ll give the kid credit for being able to take the beating.
Winners: Kobe Durst & Josh Alexander
After the match Kobe Durst grabbed the microphone and demanded he get his rematch for the Alpha-1 Alpha Male Championship, which he lost in November and has yet to get his rematch for. Josh Alexander took exception to this and said Kobe has to earn respect. Stokely Hathaway came out with his entourage came and announced that Durst and Alexander will have a number one contenders match for the Alpha-1 Alpha Male Championship at the next show. Everyone was pretty confused as to why he was making this announcement so Hathaway let them and the crowd know that the investors of Alpha-1 Wrestling had come into financial trouble so they came to him for help AND NOW HE IS THE OWNER OF ALPHA-1 WRESTLING! HAHAHAHAHA!
Before the next match (which was to be a six man match that Stokely Hathaway was taking part in) he decided to change the match. He took himself out of the match and added DB Smooth in his place, then decided to make it a handicapped match and added Steve Brown to his team.
Four on Three Handicapped Match
Stevie Fierce, MJF, Steve Brown & DB Smooth w/Stokely Hathaway vs. Space Monkey, Dominic Garrini & Matt Knicks
This match wasn’t the best. I hated MJF when I first heard him on the radio a few months ago but he’s really good at playing the heel. So I guess he does the job well. Everyone else was just “okay” in their limited time but DB Smooth is very green. He’s also about seven and a half feet tall so I’ll give him the pass for now.
Winners: Stevie Fierce, MJF, Steve Brown & DB Smooth
After the match Stokely Hathaway decided to abuse his new power a bit more and added MJF to the main event of the show. This really upset Steve Brown and Stevie Fierce.
For the Alpha-1 Wrestling Zero Gravity Championship
Brett Michael David vs. Josh Briggs vs. Myron Reed vs. Mark Wheeler vs. Shane Sabre (champion)
This match wasn’t too bad. I think it could have gone longer and in all honestly I don’t really care for Shane Sabre, despite him playing a fan favourite face. Josh Briggs impressed me and my wife is in to guys who look like him so she was really impressed too.
Winner: Shane Sabre
Jade Chung came out and apologized to the crowd for being unable to beat Alessandro Del Bruno at the show in November. Del Bruno came out and berated her and was about to get physical when she gave her main reason/excuse for being unable to beat him: she’s pregnant. Del Bruno still got in her face until her real-life husband Josh Alexander came out to the rescue. Del Bruno got the best of him and then Mark Wheeler came out to help them out as well. But then SWERVE he took Alexander out too.
Gregory Irons vs. Joey Ryan
This was a Joey Ryan match. He (Ryan) wrestled in Vancouver, British Columbia the night before this show and I could tell just from looking at him that he was f***ing exhausted. I really felt bad for the guy. It was entertaining enough but I felt like we didn’t get one hundred percent of Joey Ryan today. Gregory Irons however was on point and did a great job.
Winner: Gregory Irons
[intermission]
Kurt Stallion vs. Alex Daniels
This was another really f***ing good match. The two of them beat the hell out of each other and it only ended when Kurt Stallion got himself disqualified for using a chair. I felt really bad for Stallion towards the end though. They were slapping each other really hard and after one slap to the side of the head he fell out of the ring and said he couldn’t hear out of his left ear. It reminded me of the infamous injury Steve Corino suffered when Homicide did the same thing to him fifteen years ago, which left Corino deaf in the one ear to this day.
Winner: Alex Daniels via disqualification
After the match commentator Reed Duthie got the microphone and told Kurt Stallion that he just received a message from Stokely Hathaway that his actions have forced Hathaway to suspend him until April.
Gauntlet Match for the Alpha-1 Wrestling Tag Team Championships
The Fraternity vs. the Boys from Jollyville vs. 2-Stars (champions) vs. the Meme Team vs. the Western Med Connection
This match was okay. I’m not a fan of Gauntlet Matches myself because it’s usually pretty easy to pick the winners out. I’m sure there’s one out there but I can’t remember ever seeing one where the guys who entered first won. They Boys from Jollyville weren’t too bad. T-Money looks like he can go. He did one running body-check move that was really insane, but the one guy from the Fraternity also sold it really well. The biggest disappointment here were the 2-Stars (Ethan Page and Cody Rhodes). They really only used the match to further their break-up and impending match and it really just wasted a lot of time. And once they were out of the match the crowd kind of turned on the show.
Winners: the Western Med Connection (new Alpha-1 Wrestling Tag Team Champions)
For the Alpha-1 Wrestling Alpha Male Championship
Alessandro Del Bruno vs. MJF vs. Ricky Shane Page
This was a lot better a match than I thought it would be. I’ve seen two Ricky Shane Page matches: one a brawl and one a wrestling match. The brawl was definitely more his forte but he was much better here. He was no Curt Hennig but he held his own. Alessandro Del Bruno and MJF played the conniving heels that teamed up on him for most of the match.
Winner: Ricky Shane Page
I don’t remember one hundred percent but Mark Wheeler either interfered during the match or came out after the match to aide Del Bruno, but to no avail.
______________________________________________________________
This show was pretty good. My wife wanted to go to see Cody Rhodes and I’d never say “no” to going to a wrestling show. Then Joey Ryan got added and I was really glad. But both of those guys really kind of disappointed us tonight. As I said: Joey Ryan wrestled in Vancouver the day before this show and it’s a five hour time difference between there and Toronto plus a five hour flight. So when I met him before the show I could tell the poor guy was running on fumes. The match really suffered because of it. Not that I expected a six and a quarter star classic but I don’t think we got the full Joey Ryan experience. Cody Rhodes wrestled for Ring of Honor in Nashville the day before this too and while it’s not as far away as Vancouver it’s still a damn far distance. I was honestly waiting for them to announce he wasn’t there up until the second he walked through the curtain. But even when he did come out the match itself was just a tool to further a feud with Ethan Page, which was the same thing that happened when we saw him with Alpha-1 Wrestling in November. My wife looked at me after the show and disappointedly told me she “just wants to see him wrestle a match”. I’d like to think that this feud with Ethan Page will end with one but they have to stop stringing my wife along. She wasn’t impressed.
But the first match was f***ing awesome. One of the better matches I’ve seen in person. And there were a couple of other really good matches too, so I’m glad we went. The Jade Chung segment was a bore. Really…no one cares. The crowd was kinda vocal about it too. All I got out of it was that I hated Josh Alexander when I found out he was married to her, now I hate him even more.
