All the shows on tv can come and go but to me "Quantum Leap" had the saddest ending ever. 5 seasons and it ended like that. Won't spoil it if you have seen it but the final words of the episode....

At least in Dinosaurs they were going to just fall asleep and never wake up.
Sam, the poor bastard just jumped forever. Forever being let down over and over and over.Forever trying to find his place in the world just to be ripped away once he halfway figures it out. Sounds like Hell.

I was 11 years old when that aired and I couldn't sleep that night. It just haunted me. There's been talk of a re-launch/re-boot series over the years and one of the possible ideas I've heard is that Sam's daughter enters the Quantum Leap accelerator and begins leaping from life to life in an attempt to find him. Man I would love to see that. 11-year-old me needs Sam Beckett to come home.

If they'd had Bakula on-screen sayin somethin to the effect of: "I'm goin to keep doing this, I choose my destiny." then leaping before the screen fades to black, it'd be much better received.
It's the stark text that's the disappointment. Do the same concept with Sam makin the choice, and it works.

Thats at first what I thought they were doing when Sam is outside talking to God Goodness the bartender when he says he wants to go home but can't but I dont think they flushed it out to well

This ending always seemed to me like the ALF ending where they didn't realize this would actually be the end of the Series... with how stark the end text is.
but I have never found anything stating this to be the case.
(for those that don't remember ALF ended on what was supposed to be a cliffhanger with the government agents capturing him... and from the pilot it was flat out stated they were going to torture and then dissect him if they ever caught an alien. the to be continued was removed in subsequent airings after the show was canceled)

I mean, what else would they make Alf Pogs out of?

No. There was a TV movie where he was broken out.

Spooks is worse. Harry sees his former lover strangled to death and then the woman he’s been in love with for the last seven years jumps in front of a shard of glass to stop him being stabbed. They agree to leave the British Secret Service and live in a house she has bought in the country. She then dies.
