I hate to add to the gloom and doom about the CW division, but it’s kind of hard not to have a dim outlook on it at this point in time. I was never completely sold on the idea of a new CW title to begin with, given how much the ring performance style has changed from the days when WCW normalized such performing style in the 90’s; back then it was only lightweight wrestlers who were doing such impressive aerial acrobatics, but today its become commonplace in the heavyweight class as well, re. Seth Rollins or Sami Zayne. And while the division has had some definite ups such as Neville as the king of the cruiserweights and Enzo as the heel heat machine, its still always been a rather awkward fit with the rest of the show. And adding that along with the separate belts for both individual brands just makes it seem excessive to me. So with that said, perhaps it would be best for the CW title become sort of like the UK title has been-something that is exclusive to the Network for those who are genuinely interested, and also a way to occasional add to an NXT Takeover card. Especially with the ever ongoing speculation of whether NXT needs a “midcard belt,” perhaps the CW title could fill that role. And this wouldn’t mean that it could never appear or be defended on the main roster-just it would no longer be something that has to be seen every single week-which I might add is something I think has devalued all the titles significantly for some time now.

Honestly, the CW title should have been a part of NXT this whole time. Most of these guys should have been further developed and spotlighted down in Florida and be allowed to mingle with the heavyweights in NXT the same way all the guys under 205 are allowed to do. And in typical NXT fashion once a particular cruiserweight is super over with the crowd he is then pushed on the main roster like a big deal similar to how Balor was treated initially (and starting to be treated as again).

Yeah I agree, Full Sail LOVED these guys and they were incredibly over there, Cedric got god like pops. They could have been molded so much better as faces and heels with programs with all the stars and themselves, instead they got forced on the Main Roster in front of tired crowds who didn't know who three quarters of them were or why they should care...

Either Corny or Bruce have said as much on their podcasts. As soon as Braun perfects a moonsault, bye bye 205. I thought it was a mistake to make 205 Live an afterthought of Smackdown. I assumed they would put it exclusively on the Network, taping it at Full Sail. If they did that, it might be salvageable.

At least that way you won’t be dealing with a half empty arena and dead audience.

It should be a regular main roster title, but not kept so separate. The division doesn't need its own show, and the wrestlers should be interacting with the heavyweights. You could have Cruiserweight tag teams in the tag division, cruiserweights going for the IC or US title, etc. And stop treating certain guys like they are above the division. Someone like Finn Balor would make a great champion. It would make the belt seem like a bigger deal as well as put a title on a faction leader.

The context of the show should be considered. When the WWEU first came up with the tournament, the buzz of being at FSU plus the great crowd made it believable and somewhat magical. To recapture the interest, they need to recapture the magic. Tape it seasonally, like NXT or, dare I say, Impact. Run 9-13 episodes, then let the talent either mini-tour with 205 Live or get some indy dates. When you need them for a PPV, they'll be ready.

While 205 Live has often been WWE's best show, I'm still of the opinion that a Cruiserweight title is by definition completely worthless because it's basically just a consolation prize for guys who can't be bothered to fight people bigger than them.

Said it in another thread but I'd just make the Cruiserweight stuff a part of NXT and no longer locked into that division. Move 205 Live to another night and make it a show for the women's division.
