They had one recently. I recall it because Stephanie made an uncommon appearance as a former GM.

However, your larger point is still relevant. Smackdown doesn't get much of anything, which is unfortunate. And creatively bankrupt in my opinion.

Mark Henry is retiring. What is the harm of doing a Smackdown dedicated to this? The man has been with the company for 20 years. Have some superstars talk about him. Show some clips from the past. Do a theme of having the other strong men of the roster compete with each other such as Big E, Kane, and Rusev. And then put Henry in the main event against AJ Styles (non-title). Have him lose graciously, then do a short speech. They could do shows like these every once in a while for departing stars. This sort of thing goes on all the time in Japan and NA independents and is well regarded.

If RAW is supposed to be the infomercial for the PPVs then why not let Smackdown be the "fun" show that doesn't necessarily have to have some tight week to week narrative?

I mean Smackdown had the X logo for its tenth anniversary for quite some time. But honestly I think it gets overlooked because smackdowns prime and prominence came after the Monday night wars. There’s not really any “hahaha we won, and we’re still on the air card” to play. Also Raw’s managed to stay on the same day of the week for its whole run. It’s a staple of Monday Night programming. Smackdown has shifted days frequently
