This is a thing that I've never really understood.
Like "Mitch the plant", for example.

It's fun and they make for easy heel heat when a villain inevitably murders them. I still think about the ultra angry boos Barrett got when he murdered Stardust's ladder friend at WM31.

Possibly something to do with the theatre side of wrestling. Just as an actor can convey the feelings Hamlet has for Yorick by holding a skull in the right way, Mick Foley can make us care about Mr Socko.

Deep down, the majority of wrestling fans know that this whole industry is a hundreds of years old carny joke that we're all in on.
When you can accept how goofy the conceit of wrestling is, you can really get into the stupid shit like inanimate objects with names or pretending not to recognise Tyler Breeze in an old lady disguise.
Not every match has to be an epic. I love buying into the ridiculous, midcard bollocks.

I like the inanimate objects and Broken/Woken Matt naming his pet animals (wild and domestic) after historical figures (George Washington and Napoleon), so the more fun goofiness in wrestling, the better.

I think they stand as good reminders that wrestling can still be goofy and fun. What was one of the most over things in WWE in 2017? It was a list.
