I didn't realize at first that Fresh off the Boat must be a tv show, & thought they meant she was a refugee. Took a minute of 'wtf? You can't say things like that!' for me to work it out. It's a pretty funny show based on Eddie Huang's life, based on his book of the same name, as the American-born son of Taiwanese immigrants in Orlando. It's sort of like Everybody Hates Chris in format where the narrator is an adult reminiscing about his wacky life as a kid. Ray Wise also plays the next door neighbor to the Huangs and he's hilarious. Mostly because he's the polar opposite of every typical Ray Wise character. Yeah, I only saw a few of its first episodes but pretty funny show surprisingly. I'm happy to say I have no idea wtf GAH is.

Oh, FFS. So for those keeping score: we're losing two of the best sitcoms of the 2010s in this and the next season, others have been shut down before their time like The Real O'Neals...and we're getting Roseanne and American Idol Redux in return, and now this. ABC is going down faster than a....oh, better not use that crack, in the spirit of this brave and groundbreaking "idea" I don't want to say anything misogynistic. Let me guess, they're going to totally deflate me and lose American Housewife to make more room for things like these? And it's not like there's a score of other female Marvel heroes they could have used if they wanted to glom off the success of Wonder Woman, which unlike forced efforts like this, organically appealed to women, and yes SJWs, and well, everybody. Then again, with the way ABC Marvel shows have gone... You know, this is making me FORGET about the wall-bangingness of reviving the XFL!!! What's next, cancelling American Housewife for a Growing Pains reboot with a CGI Alan Thicke? Oh and original article? Bringing up Ghostbusters '16 is SO not the way to make people think this is a good thing. Amen. "What if X character was......... wait for it....... X instead of X?" "I don't know, what if you had an original idea?" It's not like there's ever a slick storytelling angle to any such swapjob that justifies it. At it's core, it's just hack.

My only objection is, "Why not just knock it off instead of doing the reboot shit?" Besides the theme song absolutely nobody cares about the Greatest American Hero anymore and most of the target audience would never have even heard of it, so it's just using an existing name for absolutely no reason.

I loved the original series, this one just seems like a remake for the sake of diversity. I won't watch it, not because they changed it, but I just don't like anything new-i'm not even fazed by the idea of reboots anymore

There's nothing inherently male or even iconic about the original show, so there's not really anything 'out there' about the character being female. Dumb thing to even take offense with.
I'm still waiting for the Misfits of Science reboot/remake.

Out of the whole article, this is what I took away from it. I mean... Why? As for the actual thread topic, GAH was a big part of my childhood. Along with Batman 66 reruns, it was one of the first live action superhero shows I was exposed to and I was really big on it. That said, I don't mind a reboot, female or otherwise (although the GAHeroine pilot was terrible). Whether it's good or bad, it won't destroy the old show for me. None of this "raping my childhood" stuff.

ABC backed “American Crime”. For three seasons. I trust them.

In a Manimal remake, he'd constantly be on the run from PETA.

I don't see why they have to brand it with the old show, instead of just using the base concept, which is strong, but whatever. It'll probably be good, depending on who they use for the lead. If they go with someone kinda schmucky and relatable, it'll be great, but if they go with a "clearly lives in the gym, model good looks" type....I dunno.

If they're completely rebooting the show, and not doing something like "Greatest American Heroine" I hope they keep the main character somewhat incompetent like her male counterpart. Also, I'd like to see the "expert" assigned to help her also be recast as a woman.

Okay...these unnecessary reboots with swapped-gender leads are getting out of hand. It's the lazy way to make it seem "fresh".
