Samuel L Jackson may be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Nick Fury, but it hasn’t stopped Stephen Lang from expressing his interest in playing the character. Or a version of him. The Avatar actor recently told Screen Rant that he would love to play Nick Fury, but not the S.H.I.E.L.D director that already exists and we know in the MCU. Instead, Lang would be interested in playing the original Howling Commandos leader. Quoting that his all time favorite Marvel comic book series was Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos. Lang said “I friggin loved Sgt. Fury’s Howling Commandos and to me it was always like, I want to be Nick Fury”. While it’s interesting for there to be two Nick Furys in the MCU. It might still be a bit far fetched, although there are two different versions of in the comics right now. One introduced which is the son of the original nick fury known as “Nick Fury Jr” who was inspired by Jacksons Fury. It could open doors for the possibility of a Nick Fury Sr & Nick Fury Jr. The Howling Commandos were also introduced in Captain America: The First Avenger and were apart of Agent Carter where they played important roles in both. It would be interesting to see a Howling Commandos movie that has The Original Sgt. Nick Fury leading the team. For now though there are no plans for anything of this sort and instead Nick Fury will be appearing in Captain Marvel which opens on March 8, 2019. fandomwire.com/2018/01/30/stephen-lang-wants-to-play-marvels-original-nick-fury/

Hey, if it gets us more Neal McDonough as Dum Dum, I'm all for it, even if it makes no sense.

Poor Lang thirsty for that Superhero movie money. He campaigned pretty hard to play Cable as well, didn't he?

Poor Lang thirsty for that Superhero movie money. In his defense, he is spot on looks wise for Fury and Cable. He's also pretty badass, I'm all for giving him something to do.

I'd take it. The comics now have both Nick Fury's in the same continuity, so why not?

Probably too late for Infinity War, but maybe they could do an "alternate reality" episode of Agents of Shield (well, okay, another one) where he is Nick Fury. I'm sure it's not too difficult to pull off.

I really don't like the idea of multiple Nick Fury's running around the MCU. It's the kind of continuity porn that comic book geeks love but turns away casual fans. They chose their Nick Fury, they need to stick with it.

If they did it like a period piece set just shortly after the first Cap, I'd be down.
There's nothing that says he couldn't be Sam's grandpa or something.

In the Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes cartoon they had the traditional Fury during WW2 (called Jack Fury I believe) and the SLJ Fury in the modern day (presumably his grandson).

Poor Lang thirsty for that Superhero movie money. I mean, he’s asked about it in interviews, what else is he going to say? “Na, the extra money and fame doesn’t really appeal”?

Yeah, it's kinda my response to most of these interviews where they ask someone if they want to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe... "No, I don't want to be in the second biggest cinema franchises in history..." is generally not something someone is going to say

Of course, he's already done one, so idk.
