Sometimes life kicks you when you’re down.
In the month of January, I’ve had a few sucky moments.
First, our beloved cat psssed away.
Then iget sick for several days.
Then my wife gets laid up for two weeks with an unknown ailment.
Then we have today. Today I learned that the funding for my full time gig is being cancelled. This means that when the remaining balance runs out, I’m out of a job.
Now, on the plus side, I have until the end of April to find something. If I don’t, I’ll still have about 140-160 unpaid vacation hours as a severance pay. I’d hate to cash out my 403b, but that option is there as well.
I also still have my part time job, but it is unlikely I could add hours to that. My wife works as well, but she can only add so many hours.

Sorry to hear that, what a crap start to 2018. I hope things get better from here. At least you have notice to find something new, like you said; do you have any connections in your current job you could leverage to try and find a new position?
ETA: Help can come from some unlikely places too. A few years back I thought I was going to lose my job and panic-posted on Facebook, just venting really. To my surprise, three people got in touch with me about coming to work with/for them. As much as it sucks having to let people know the position you're in, an unexpected offer might come up.

I was in a similar situation many years ago I.e. The funding for my role was only secure for another six months.
I applied like crazy, got an interview and was in another job a month after I was told about the funded role.
Losing the funding was the best thing to happen to me professionally.

Sorry to hear this, bud, best of luck to you and yours.
On the job front, the job I was doing was taken away a few years ago, and I had to apply for lots of other jobs - admittedly in the same organisation. The job I got wasn't my first choice, but I figured I'd take it, give it a year and see how I felt afterwards. That was six years ago, I love the job I do and it's one of the happiest times I've had in employment. While I don't wish to see you unemployed, it might be that the next job you do will be even better than the one you're doing now. Hang in there, man, it can still all come good.
