I am pretty sure my mom got me it for X-mas. I don't know if its I or II. I had been talking about it, reading about it, playing it in stores, etc lately, and I had a convo with my mom today that went like this.
Mom: Have you looked at all your presents when you were home alone? Me: Nope. I want to be 100% suprised on Christmas Morning. Mom: Well, I am pretty sure you know what you're getting. Me: Nope. Mom: I think you know. Me: I didn't look. Mom: Not saying you did, but I still think you have an idea.
So I can only assume its Guitar Hero. My friend, who is a guitar enthusiast and had previously scoffed at the game, played it in store and really liked it, said that if I do get it he'll chip in for his own controller so we can "jam". This could be a fun ass X-mas.
What do you guys think of the game(s)?

it does look awesome(haven't got to do more than touch it for mere seconds). II has an awesome soundtrack(one's is ok, but II has "Misirlou" AND Freebird, and some RATM)

GH is an AWESOME game. Very addicting. I was playing in front of my fiancee, she said it looked kinda dumb. I finally talked her into trying it. Needless to say, we played it for like, 5 hours that night. You wont be dissapointed.

I've had Guitar Hero for about six months, I absolutely love it even though I'm not very good (well, I finished career mode on hard difficulty, but can't do crap on Expert). I just might ask for GH II for Christmas, even though I'm actually waiting for the Xbox 360 version to come out.
I tried GH II in a store yesterday, but there WAS NO SOUND ON THE TELEVISION. I wonder who thought of demoing Guitar Hero without sound. Anyway, I played my way through Strutter on Medium even though I couldn't hear a thing and hit 98% of the notes, getting a five-star rating. It would probably have been easier with some sound, though.

a friend of mine has it and tried to do the thing where he whips the guitar around his body and try to catch it just like on the commercail but it hit him in the mouth. Made me laugh for about 20 minutes. Whatta goon!

I was at Wal-Mart at 2 in the morning and they had it up on display, so I gave it a shot. I thought all you had to do is press the buttons like DDR but someone told me i had to move the little thing at the bottom and I felt dumb. But once I got that first chord on Free Bird, I nearly fainted... Cant wait to get it Christmas morning

Made me laugh for about 20 minutes. Whatta goon! That made me think, does anyone actually jump around like a rock star when playing this. I've seen the commercials and Gamespot.com has a contest like that, but does anyone actually do it. I'm too focused on actually hitting the notes to dance around.

Am I the only person who finds GH to be a derivitive ripoff of Dance Dance Revolution with a guitar-shaped controller? (and further acknowledging that DDR is a ripoff of Simon)
Jed Shaffer ~If I got the itch to play the axe, dammit, I'll pick up a REAL guitar. Not a Fisher Price toy connected to my TV.

Most games are "rip-offs" of other games these days.

Just be careful of one thing: if you have a weak wrist (like my right one), make sure to wear a brace so that it won't hurt after marathon playing.

Most games are "rip-offs" of other games these days. Yes, but there's cleverly done ripoffs, and there's blatant copying. Final Fantasy 7 may be a ripoff of Phantasy Star II, but at least they expanded the gameplay, made it not so blindingly difficult and added cinema scenes. DDR and Guitar Hero are the SAME GAME; the only difference is what input device you use to input the color sequences. Jed Shaffer ~And the above paragraph represents the one and only time you will see me defend Final Fantasy. From now on, back to hating.

Well, for me the biggest difference between DDR-style dance mat games and Guitar Hero is that I find it a lot more fun to pick up what is basically a plastic air guitar and rock out to "Cowboys From Hell" than hop around with your feet about to catch fire (or, in my case, stumble around like a moron) on a dance mat to some 5,200 BPM Japanese eurobeat song (which can be fun as well). It might technically be a DDR ripoff (like every other rhythm game out there, I suppose) but quite frankly I don't care as long as I'm having a good time.
Of course Guitar Hero isn't a proper replacement for an actual guitar, it isn't even supposed to be anything else than a kickass party game (game, not a serious simulation) where you can pretend to be a rock god. I play the real guitar as well, but that doesn't prevent me from enjoying GH at all.

being a avid guitar player for 6 years, i thought GH was DDR for your fingers as well.
Than I saw them Demo and they had "JOHN THE FISHERMAN". maybe my favorite Primus song. and reguardless of me knowing how to already play it, its really a lot of fun
