So we all knew he came back with the big money deal. With this shoot character and all his comments. They gave him a very big match at in your house DX versus the Undertaker who was hot in the middle of the Kane storyline. So they must have had plans for him.
Another miss opportunity was when HBK was out at No Way Out. Instead of Savio it should've been Jarrett. It would've gotten more heat from the crowd and it was someone who mattered. I guess the whole NWA thing got in the way. But I wish they kept him a shooting from the lip character. It was a damn shame he went back to country music star for now reason at WrestleMania 14 without explanation.
Anyone else think they should've given it just a little bit more time. Or tweak the Aztec character instead of abandoning it completely?
They put enough time and money into it. Plus I'm not understanding the rationale if Jarrett even put down the "Double J" character only to go back to it within 5 months. What a shame.

I don’t know if I was lost for years, but before this week, I never heard this version of Jarrett called an Aztec Warrior. Can someone please elaborate for me? I’m absolutely clueless as to why.

Well, it certainly looked better than the "what the f*** are these white straps" gear.

I was watching when he returned, but I was like 12 years old, thought there was something I forgot.

In my opinion two things happened that derailed the Aztec Warrior.
First, without permission from Vince, or clearing it before with Austin, in his debut promo Jarrett openly buried the 3:16 merch and said that Stunning Steve still was a midcarder in his mind. I can't see the office being happy about Jarrett going into business for himself and insulting their top draw when he was never even stated to have a program with Austin. Jeff went against script and tried to better himself at the company's expense.
If you check out that awful promo, Vince looked uncomfortable and detached like realizing that it was a mistake hiring Jeff. At one point Vince started playing with a ghost face mask that a fan threw at him.
Second, if you check out the observer reports about live events during that time, the crowd's reaction to Jarrett during that era was apathy. Bruce Prichard confirmed it in his podcast, that he cut some god awful promos. He even mentioned that Jeff was given an entourage, the NWA guys and later the Harris twins, to see if the fans cared. They didn't.
The best thing that happened to Jarrett was losing the hair match and then being paired with Debra.

Well, it certainly looked better than the "what the f*** are these white straps" gear. Jeff Jarrett wearing those white straps trying to become a horseman... That is a crime against wrestling.

Jeff Jarrett in a singlet would have been a much better look for him than wearing boy shorts.

I'm going through the raw's of 98 and literally one week he's still in his aztec grear then Maarch 2nd, YEE HAW double J is back with Tennessee Lee. Felt like a step back at the time to revert him back to his 95 gimmick.
