I could cry. I've been waiting for so long to see this thing and now maybe just a month to go.

Yeah, but could HBO Max shut down soon beforehand?
(Sorry, that thread just baffles me.)

The thing that they said would never ever happen... actually happening... I am shocked That said... this seems more like a reason to get HBO Max than like... any of the other stuff they've announced

Netflix to announce they’ve secured the international rights to it for Christmas to compete with Disney+ in 3...2... If WB are smart they'll have already started a bidding war between Netflix and Amazon. Considering it’s being offered at no extra charge on top of the regular HBO subscription, I’m gonna assume they already have some pretty impressive international deals being worked on

From the article itself, it seems the film will open December 16th in places without HBO Max but with cinemas shut in many places, shouldn’t rule out any streaming deals being placed around that time too.

The best option. Theaters are still mostly open here, so I'll go see it on a Sunday AM when I'll be one of the only people in there.

It is too bad it had to release this way. If it wasn't for covid, i bet this would have hit a billion

So are we going to be able to watch it without paying for HBO MAX?

Is it going to require an extra payment like Mulan?
I'd keep it there for awhile, pull it when theaters can open more and show it there, then release the DVD and put it back on Max.

It doesn't require an additional purchase and you're pretty close on their strategy. It's going to be on MAX for a month and then live exclusively in theaters.

Definitely something to get used to, but the idea of getting people to watch it and then go "oh man, imagine what that'd have looked like in theaters?!" will probably work.

Plus of course the studios do get the theater money. Nothing like this, but Disney did this all the time with their animated features, as we know.

Especially with winter flu season coming

Kinda related, but Kristin Wiig is scheduled to be on SNL on December 19th. You'd think they had this in place in case all went as planned. (as such, depending on that, I see her doing a Wonder Woman skit somewhere in there.)
