NXT to Crown North American Champion at Takeover:New Orleans

A new title, the NXT North American Championship, will debut at TakeOver: New Orleans, NXT General Manager William Regal announced during tonight’s NXT tapings at Full Sail University.

The inaugural NXT North American Champion will be decided in a Six-Man Ladder Match featuring Adam Cole, Velveteen Dream, Killian Dain, Lars Sullivan and new NXT signees Ricochet and EC3.

WWE PLANNING ON ADDING ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP

PWInsider.com has heard from several different sources over the last 48 hours that WWE is looking to add a secondary singles championship to the NXT brand. This comes on the heel of our report that WWE is looking to add Cruiserweight Tag Team champions for the 205 Live brand later this year.

One source stated the belt would be christened the NXT North American championship and that tonight's TV taping may set the stage for the introduction of that belt.

The belief is a match will be announced for Takeover: New Orleans to crown the first champion.

I think they think they’re unable to do it because they’d have to do one for both brands, and they want to keep a women’s presence on both shows... At least until putting them all on one show isn’t seen as making them lesser than RAW.

There are a lot of titles to be sure but as a fan of the brand split I like it. I see WWE trying to be more like say NBCUniversal or Gap Inc. where they have multiple products under one roof. For the most part NXT is isolated from the main roster and 205 looks to be heading that way as well. I do wish they would move to a harder split for RAW and SDL.

NXT has kind of needed another title for a while, and I think this is a good idea. Keeps the mid card in NXT busy, and will also help avoid guys disappearing for months at a time.

I mean all the titles have made sense thus far so this isn't bad. The UK title was sort of the unofficial secondary title but I wouldn't mind a TV title for NXT

We still got the rumored CW tag titles coming too along with potentially womens tag titles at some point

That said, just use the UK title for it. Give the thing a reason to exist.

I keep seeing a lot of posts about WWE being way to saturated with belts, but really I don’t think it is too bad. They have a ginormous roster and what is supposed to be 4 seperate, distinct brands. People have been saying NXT needs a secondary men’s title for a minute and I agree. And I don’t think the tag titles area bad idea for 205 live. However, I just think there should be one main world champ for the men and women on the main roster. But, these two new belts have no barring on that issue, so I see no problem with them.
