This is one of them. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sure there were a number of people who liked the first Mary Poppins, but was the public really clamouring for a sequel 55 years later? But, then again, what do I know? I'm still waiting on the sequel for Robin Hood. Considering the absolute rewrite of human history Disney performed bringing SAVING MR. BANKS into existance (remember everything that happened in that movie? it didn't, like....at all), they actually manufactured that interest and wove it into our souls. We've always wanted Mary Poppins Returns. It was destined. Always. And with your post, you have identified yourself as an unbeliever and the mouse guard will be by your home shortly to slaughter your loved ones and feed your blood to the soil of Walt's Earth.Aww, crap. Well, better call my associates at Organization XIII. Crap, I shouldn't have let that slip either.

My mom is a huge Mary Poppins fan and said we are seeing this opening night, so ..
For someone who was 6 when Mary Poppins came out, she is quite excited for a sequel

Don't know why they didn't just make a remake. That's essentially what this is anyway.

I’m really hoping it’s being kept a big secret and that Julie Andrews makes a cameo in this somewhere.

I was pretty skeptical but that trailer won me over.
I don't recognize Lin Manuel Miranda at all without his goatee.

At least they got one actor from the original film in this. To be fair, almost all of the originals are dead. The only ones still living are Dick, Julie, Mrs. Banks and and Jane Banks. Mrs. Banks last acting credit was from 1999. Karen Dotrice, who played Jane, hasn't acted much in the last couple of decades, and Julie Andrews was asked if she would like to make a cameo, but she declined because she wanted this to be Emily's take on Mary and not over shadow that. Shows how much of a class act she truly is.

Don't know why they didn't just make a remake. That's essentially what this is anyway. Because this is based on a different story from the collection of stories the original was based on.

Anyone see this?
It was good. Not great. Watched it yesterday and already forgot most of the songs. I love me some Lin Manuel Miranda but the Sherman Brothers he ain't.
Suffered a lot from having the same story beats.
Emily Blunt did well, and she had a task I did not envy.
The standout was EASILY Ben Whishaw as Michael Banks. He was the emotional heart of the movie, delivering a very heartbreaking song in the beginning. The second half of the movie doesn't live up to the heart of the first though.
Some fantastic animation too, though some of the magic is lost from the original I think when you replace "how did they do that?" with "computers"

I thought it was really well done. Even though I couldn’t tell any of the songs. A lot of great call backs to the original with out feeling forced.
One thing I thought I would never shout in a movie theatre... “Deus ex machina Dick Van Dyke!”
