,because they came on before or after a show that you were going to watch. Captain Planet in the early 90s (when it came on before the Power Hour and WCW Main Event) comes to mind.

Walker, Texas Ranger and La Femme Nikita I bet you can guess the show I was watching Same here, except I wonder why I didn't get into Walker, Texas Ranger during that time when much later I got into watching the reruns. Also, I would have totally watch the TV show version of La Femme Nikita. I guess my interests were different when I was a kid. I also remember some cop shows that were on before Thunder or Nitro.

M*A*S*H would play immediately after Saturday morning cartoons when I was a kid, so I'd usually stick around and watch if I didn't have anything else to do.
My local Fox station would play Tales From the Crypt at midnight on Saturdays. I'd usually stick around for Forever Knight and Highlander: The Series after. I never really cared for both, but usually watched regardless.

Some cartoons I call "Sandwich toons" as they were between the shows I watched the main ones I remember
- Gem & The Holograms - Maxie's World (We didn't have Nickelodeon at that point)
As for for Live Action I remember watching Walker Texas Ranger because it was on before WWF and my parents watched it.

Sailor Moon came on after Monster Rancher and I think before Digimon on Fox Kids in the UK.

Was a big Dragonball Z fan back as a kid and would watch it on Cartoon Network religiously..
However I did have to sit through Angela Anaconda first..A show I couldnt stand but couldn't be bothered to channel hop.

When I was in the Philippines they showed WCW Nitro late on TNT when it was both CN and TNT(Cartoon Network by day, TNT by night), they would show a few MGM short films after Nitro was done, and I found one that featured the Three Stooges before they were The Three Stooges(I didn't know they did this before):
Little bit off topic, when I was watching Nitro the same night, since this TNT was together with Cartoon Network, I guess it was a technical error, the Cartoon Network logo was on screen instead of the TNT one, which since I was young, I thought it was like WCW Nitro was shown on Cartoon Network. But this was after the Dungeon of Doom and before Russo.

I tried to watch Lupin the Third every morning before school back when it came on at 5:30 in the morning on Adult Swim. Every now and then, I'd wake up earlier than that, so I'd watch Case Closed (aka Detective Conan) while I got breakfast ready.

Back in the late 70s at 3pm on a UHF channel was reruns of Scooby Doo where are you. Which I loved. After it was some syndicated Terrytoons show,Mighty Mouse and all,I never liked it. But cause after it reruns of The Adams Family aired i would watch Terrytoons every weekday.

Walker, Texas Ranger and La Femme Nikita I bet you can guess the show I was watching Same reason why I caught the end of Murder, She Wrote? On that topic...Fishing with Orlando Wilson because it was before WCW(SN). Thunder in Paradise before Nitro. WCW Prime before ECW. Blinky Bill because it came before Sailor Moon. Are You Being Served? because NJN (PBS station in New Jersey) shared a channel with Comedy Central, and that aired before midnight, when it would switch over to MST3K. Since the timing was usually off in the transition, I had many tapes where the end of AYBS? and the NJN test pattern and sign off would cut into the first segment of MST. Sometimes cut it off altogether.

Sailor Moon because it was the show that came on before Dragon Ball Z. Although I did become a bit fond of it, and it's the reason I have a Sailor Mercury button from a convention.

Ha, pretty much every show on Nick At Nite during the early 80's and 90's!
Superman (George Reeves) was on, so I watched it and loved it. However, this "weird" funny family show starring that guy from Mary Poppins came on right afterwards...so I stuck around for that too. Then I fell in love with the Dick Van Dyke show...but this super spy show came on after it and it was really really funny, so I stuck around. So after I fell in love with Get Smart...this cop drama came on...and one episode even featured a crazy guy being a super hero! Wow, cool, I love super heroes! So I fell in love with Dragnet. After that Mary Tyler Moore, who I knew from the Dick Van Dyke show, had her show come on, so I watched it...and so it goes.

In the early 90's Nickelodeon aired a really terrible Soap Opera for tweens called Fifteen (AKA: Hillside). The acting was beyond awful. They'd always put it in between two shows that I really liked so I'd end up siting through it wishing I had enough time to go outside and play before the show I actually wanted to see would come on.

In the early 90's I used to go to the bar to watch Monday Night Football. On the east coast, MacGuyver used to come on before it. The only reason I watched it was because I wanted a good seat for the game.

When I was a kid, the local TV channel would run cop shows on Wednesday night, sometimes it was "Police Story" (an anthology series), sometimes it was "Police Woman" (with Angie Dickenson), sometimes something else. Before it there would be a half-hour news quiz show called "Front Page Challenge" that I would always watch, where a panel of journalists would try to identify the story behind the guest by asking questions about them. There was also a similar show called "Beyond Reason" for about a season where it was the same type of show but with psychics and palm readers and astrologists instead of journalists.
Found a clip where they try to figure out the identity of guest Stan Lee!
Note: the show's host was Paul Soles, who was the voice of Spider-Man in the 60's cartoon!

Similar but not quite what the OP was seeking: I became a big fan of "The Office" because I would go out drinking at 8:30 Thursdays and needed something to take up my attention beforehand.
The real answer: Tons of shit TGIF shows they tried to run after Family Matters, Step by Step, Full House, etc (Not counting Sabrina!)

If you watched any WCW, you had to put up with Captain Planet or Fishin' with Orlando Wilson for 5 minutes.
