Went to one locally and I just really wanted to see live wrestling. Because the crowd was so small, 2 of the heels specifically tried to antagonize me into booing them.
Now I know that is part of the show for some, but I really just wanted to watch actual matches and appreciate what goes into that
Just more or less curious, if I am the only one who goes to shows just to watch matches and not really interested in the storyline around it.

Now I know that is part of the show for some, but I really just wanted to watch actual matches and appreciate what goes into that Just more or less curious, if I am the only one who goes to shows just to watch matches and not really interested in the storyline around it. For me it depends on the fed. Just 3 years ago there was 4 feds running in my general area. Powerslam Productions-They were running at least one show a month. So I went to the shows for the matches and the storylines. Pro Wrestling EGO-Was then and still running monthly shows. But they didn't have storylines back then so I watched for the matches. NWA Battlezone Wrestling-They were running weekly shows. Tried to have storylines but cause of pay issues and other reasons they kept losing talent. So none of the storylines ever got payoffs. Plus the wrestling was not good. NWA Bayou Indy Wrestling-They ran 5 shows a year in my town, plus about 6 a year in West Monroe LA. Outside of the main events they rarely had storylines. In some ways BIW was the PWG of the LA/MS area. Used the best talent and little to no storylines. For me they were the best fed in the area. Cause you knew that from the opening match thru the main event you were gonna get good to great matches. And no filler. Now currently we have 3 feds running in the general area. SWA promotions-Might run 6 shows a year. They try to have storylines, but the fans do not care. They just want to see "some rasslin".SWA now has a tv show so I am guessing they might use that to help further some of the storylines. Pro Wrestling EGO-They now run 12 to 16 shows a year. And have lots of storylines. The main booker is a huge Chikara fan and is trying to make EGO a southern version of Chikara. It seems to be working cause they went from drawing 10 to 50 people a show to drawing 100 to 250 a show. Bayou Indy Wrestling-After a 3 year hiatus they are back. And like how they were it is a nice mixture of the best talent from TX/LA/MS/Al/TN. With only whoever the singles title holder having any kind of storyline. Out of the three BIW is still my fave. Part of that is since they run in my town I only have to drive 15 minutes to get to the show. But the major reason is the promoter listens to the fans and if a wrestler isn't getting over he either changes something about the wrestler or stops booking them.

Matches with guys that can work and know their strengths/limitations, and know how to work their gimmick.

I'm right there with you. However, in their defense.... I think they wanted to challenge themselves by trying to get you to boo them. There are people out there who have some great crowd control, they can make an entire crowd, or even a specific individual feel exactly what they want, when they want. Then there are others who, simply can't... and it comes off as cheesy.

Nah, man, I love guys that work the crowd. There's a GA indy wrestler my wife's had heat with for ten years because he called her "fat" once to get the crowd to boo. To this day, she's still got a grudge against the guy.

Decent wrestling Diversity in characters At least 1 or 2 legends At least 1 gimmick match At least 1 or 2 workers I've heard of I'm not really a fan of audience participation. I'm here to see a show not be a part of one.

I just like to see guys giving their all despite the small crowds.
Best match I’ve seen all year was at a small Indy in Hamilton, Ontario a month ago with Josh Alexander and Coby Durst verses Eddie Kingston and Chris Dickinson (I think that was his name). It was a “strong style” match with very little backstory in front of two hundred people. They beat the tar out of one another and I doubt they got paid. I gave them a standing ovation after the match for the effort they put in for undoubtedly no return.

That's a staple of indy wrestling though, especially when you say it is a specifically small crowd even for an indy show. Guys interact way more the smaller the crowd is. They're gonna try and get you engaged in it. Kinda like going to a comedy show and having a comedian ask you a question in the middle of his act. It's something you indirectly signed up for, and the weirder you make it, the more attention it's going to draw.

If you are going to just take in the show, you should probably sit/stand in the back. It is similar to being at a concert in he front row and just staring stonefaced. That is going to piss the performers off, it looks like you are not enjoying yourself. It is distracting and hurts the performance. If you are going to sit close, you should at least participate a little bit.

I usuallyngo to GCW or CZW so I expect to get a front row brawl near me and also getting plowed by wrestlers not looking behind them haha

A big battle royal featuring 20 guys who got family members to buy 10 tickets each to get booked. Those people leave after the battle royal.
Everyone on the card coming in to "Last Resort", "Headstrong", "In the End", or "Ruff Ryder's Anthem" (but only white guys come in to that one.)
A guy with the last name "Steele", a guy with the last name "Storm", and preferably a guy named "Storm Steele." These are the high fliers. They botch most of their moves.
A guy in a sweater vest. (He's the rich guy.)
A guy in a feather boa. (He's the effeminate guy.)
A guy dressed like Jeff Hardy. (He's the 'heartthrob'.)
A guy who badly wants to be Heath Ledger's Joker.
A girl who badly wants to be Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn. (She is not affiliated with the guy playing the Joker in any way, shape, or form- either on or offscreen.)
A guy pretending to be some famous masked or face-painted wrestler.
A main event featuring the promoter fighting a big star. The promoter wins.

What’s going on with ADR’s hand? also, Ellsworth vs. Hornswoggle with a clown as guest referee. The Bucks are pissed their money match for All In is being spoiled.

Everything about the situation described is properly answered here. I’m usually not vocal at shows, but in a small setting like that, it’s helping the guys by giving them the heat they’re working hard to earn. Connected with several of them by just giving them a very PG version of what they want and stirring the pot for the rest of the audience to get going.

From what I have seen over the past 30 years of going to indy shows there is 3 types.
1.Local indy-This show will be mostly local guys with maybe one mid card WWE/WCW/TNA guy. Depending on who is booked for the show you might get some good matches. 2.Rasslin show-It will be all local guys. Most of whom should have retired 10 years ago. The crowd will be full of kids and lots of bored parents. You might get lucky and see one good match. Rarely is there anyone on the show that is known outside the local area. 3.Shindy show-Take 10 backyarders, have one of them come into some money. And they book a show. Expect more botches than a Katie Forbes match. And maybe 10 people in the crowd.

Odds are, on a show like that, if anybody got paid, it would be them.
