I think he's someone who works better live than on TV at the moment.
I've seen him a couple of times live and it was awesome, but watching anything on TV I find him SO boring.

I like seeing someone from my local area doing well in the big time.

I'm not a fan. I can't stand guys who are booked as legit grappling badasses who have super unrealistic movesets that require the opponent just sort of sit there and take stuff without putting up any kind of fight.

I'm a fan of his in ring style but man he's so uncool it hurts. He's so awkward on the mic and I cringe when he talks trying to act like some hard man British lout. And he always comes out with a line that he thinks is a sick burn but goes down like a lead balloon.

Working the limbs makes sense but you've got this stick figure guy essentially poking big guys with his little twig like legs and arms and it's just not believable at all. everything about him suspends belief and not in a good way.
he's just so damn boring.

The reason it suspends disbelief is because the other guy just has to lay there and take it while ZSJ boredly walks around him doing his finger and arm bends.

Can't stand him or his style.
Talk about not being able to suspend disbelief, I'm always wishing a bigger guy would just slug him or an actual MMA specialist would put him in a real lock and make him tap.

His submissions are actually a lot more realistic than you'd think and from what I've seen he puts a lot more effort in making sure he doesn't actually hurt anyone rather than the submissions themselves being unrealistic.

I've heard that before actually, to which I say 'it's pro wrestling, I'd rather it looked painful but was totally unrealistic than something that was 'real' but couldn't be done properly so it was worked"

ZSJ has the kind of look that the only way he could believably beat someone is by tying them into a pretzel and it works. Hes not going to be more powerful than you but he knows the human body better than any other human being (other than Suzuki) and knows the submissions needed to make something significantly strong than him tap out. And when he teams with Suzuki everybody is f***ed!

I was totally underwhelmed with him in the CWC and have no desire to see him again.

He looked horrible in CWC so I'm glad I don't have to watch him every week.

I hope he's picking up things from Suzuki. I think he was actually a pretty solid addition to Suzuki-gun, and I say that as someone who is lukewarm on him generally. I'd be hardpressed to think of a guy who would be better equipped to take him under their learning tree.

I don't care about his physique at all. I just wish he would f***ing sell.
Him and Tanahashi were trading abdominal stretches, Tanahashi was selling it like it was a painful move, Zach Sabre Robot was selling it like he was trying to figure out a calculus problem.
Or when he and Sanada were trading the "pulling the opponents arms behind their back" thing, I dunno what it's called, same thing though, Sanada sold it like it hurt, ZSR sold it like he was trying to figure out synonyms to the word conundrum.
It's so goddam annoying. I don't understand how no one has gotten on his case for no selling.
His inability to even try would make Cena blush.
Other that that I can dig him.

Selling or rather the lack of it is his biggest issue. One that stands out his him taking the Cheeky Nandos from Will Ospreay and just lifting his head up like nothing had happened and continuing. At least hold your face for a second... even a grimace would do.
However, one thing that really takes me out of matches, especially with bigger guys is that it almost looks like they're going over throw him if that makes sense? Like they're expecting him to be heavier so you get that effect of when you pick up a box that you think is full and is actually empty so you nearly throw it over your shoulder. It's odd. But I suppose if he could put on weight he would, so I can't really fault that.

I feel like standing next to Suzuki is actually doing worse for Zack, because you've got this dynamic, vile, cartoonishly evil, sadistic violence goblin stretching people out and reveling in the bloodshed, and then here's this boring dude who's just going of going through the motions of whatever he's doing and not really expressing anything otherwise. It's underwhelming as shit.

Honestly I think his gimmick works best when he's Marty Scurll's comically serious tag partner.

ZSJ's "absolute boredom incarnate" doesn't really come off as effective heeling or "Oh, this is just too easy for me" at all. It comes off like he'd rather be off watching paint dry somewhere. Instead of "everything's boring because I'm so good", it just comes off as "everything's boring because I'm so boring". This. He's aiming for the SANADA/Naito tranquilo vibe but landing nowhere near. As for his look...he has more or less the same physique as me, and I don't go to the gym. He's not imposing, not even as a wiry technician, and has zero charisma. As 4real says, his promos are just...ugh. He's an irritating little twat trying to be the toughest coolest smartest man in the room, nothing about his actual aura fits his gimmick. Him tagging with Minoru is kind of hilariously tragic in a way as you can just see he's trying to learn from Minoru and emulate him, but they're absolutely worlds apart in terms of presence even if their styles are similar. He comes off as a South-English nerd cosplaying Minoru Suzuki...which is kind of exactly what he is. I honestly think Scurll would suit the role of Suzuki's protege so much better. And believe me, there is nobody I WANT to like more than ZSJ. Which is kind of why I don't, because he's going for basically my favourite thing in wrestling, the mat-wizard English shooter, and falling short. He is so not ready for this rocket push, going over far better all-round talents in Naito, Ibushi, SANADA and Tanahashi. All of them outshine him at every aspect of pro wrestling except for chaining various submissions together, which is kind of all he has.
