You know, if there is one thing I loved about 2005 Batista, it was that he was a damn clever and smart babyface.
No one pulled anything over him and he was always one step ahead.
With that said, what were your favorite Eddie and Batista moments? I really wish they had a payoff, as it was one of the best storylines that year.

Yeah, 2005 Batista...might be the best-written babyface ever? Like, at least in terms of "not being the same gullible idiot every other babyface ever always is"(here's looking at you specifically Sting)?

Triple H JBL Eddie Guererro Those were his main feuds that year and he outsmarted all 3. I miss the days faces weren't so stupid and gullible. Plus, he was damn likable too.

The way he'd have HHH's number at almost every turn was really fun to see.

Batista did the smart babyface act the right way at that time, by doing that based on the history of the characters he was interacting with, not because of being fourth wall breaking genre-savvy and being all “This is what always happens in wrestling”.

My second-favorite version of Batista, aside from Douche-tista. Not only was he a force in the ring, he could also outsmart you and just act completely confident in the fact that he knew exactly what he was doing.

I'd like to think he was easily able to outsmart Triple H because he knew so much about him from his time in Evolution and just used that to his advantage.

"Friends don't shake hands. Friends gotta hug."I was really enjoying this feud. On top of everything else, it was awful that Eddie's death derailed what was a very interesting angle. Did anyone ever come out and talk about where they planned on taking it?

Is this around the time that Melina tried to seduce him? Cause that was a high level of outsmarting someone and knowing what she was trying.

He was a savvy and interesting character. I like that he wasn't immediately nice, either. Like, watch any match he had with Finlay, and he'd fight rough in return, slapping him, choking and utilizing the 5 count, etc. He was good at adapting to situations.
Really, I only soured on Batista when he'd feud with Booker T. Maybe because they just didn't like each other in real life, but their matches sucked, their angles sucked and were really poorly written (Batista gets a bunch of title shots, for inadequately explained reasons), and they just had no chemistry together in the ring or on the mic. Both guys are solid enough wrestlers, so their matches were lesser than the sum of their parts.

As far as I remember, that Batista was the only babyface in hystory who wore expensive suits and ties, ditching the dichotomy "face = t-shirt, jeans and sneakers; heel = businessman suit and tie"

Basically, Batista came across as the only wrestler in the WWE who actually watched Raw and Smackdown at the time.

Batistas face turn is easily one of the best turns ever and is highly underrated. Started slow, let the crowd warm up to him and then betray Triple H at the perfect time.

Batista and Eddie were the highlight of the Fall of 05.
