so apparently Keiji Muoth, also known as Great Muta has decided to retire his finishing move, Moonsault press.
He's apparently getting a long needed knee surgery and due to it, he retires from using the move from now on.
he even has hosted two events with the name "last moonsault" having one match as Great Muta and one as himself.
watching the great muta match. it was pretty sad to see how difficult moving seemed to him.

Last month he had two matches built around the "Final Moonsault." The first was was at Korakuen Hall for Wrestle-1 (which he founded) where he wrestled as Keiji Mutoh. ![](https://media.giphy.com/media/23eIrF6BvSKWVXyix8/giphy.gif) It turned out that was just the final moonsault for Keiji Mutoh. He wrestled again at the DDT 21st Anniversary show as The Great Muta and performed the final moonsault under that name. ![](https://media.giphy.com/media/pzcpQUYwLeviKDJzY0/giphy.gif) He had the surgery on both knees a week or two back. He is determined to wrestle again, but there will be no more moonsaults. Here's a pic of Mutoh after surgery with his protege Seiya Sanada and Bushi. ![](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DakdfFUUwAAZ7RX.jpg)

I just realized I don't think I've ever actually watched a Mutoh match. How, I'm not sure.

Muta hasn’t had knees since like ‘98, not sure how much surgery will help him.

Muta was one of the first heels I cheered for against the baby faces. Wanted him to murk Sting and hold that beautiful television title forever.

I love me some Muta/Mutoh, but yeah, glad he's stopped doing it. Probably could have stood to stop using it sooner, particularly since he also had the shining wizard, figure four, and other finishers, anyway, that would be less lethal on his body.

I love the guy, but I think it's time to hang up the boots.

Maybe a knee surgery will give him a little of his speed back, but I'm glad he's not gonna be moonsaulting anymore

Not to be that guy, but I'm surprised he was still using the Moonsault.
