Even though I didn't mind the name change, I wish they had kept it the way SA1 did with Sonic and his friends calling him Eggman and everyone else calling him Robotnik.

Robotnik sounds like a villain. Eggman sounds like a lame Megaman boss.

I'm not sure how Robotnik sounds "scary". Sounds like someone evil who would build machines that can kill things.

Robotnik sounds cooler snd scarier. Eggman is a dumb name, To be fair he's a pretty damn stupid character. As much as they try to go, "Oh, no, he's for reals this time!" every other game he's a ridiculous ham who consistently screws everything up.

Really I feel like when a guy has lost in every single game (except Sonic Chronicles, I guess, but not like they're ever bringing that up again) for the past 30 years, you should probably either make him a joke or stop using him. There's really no salvaging him as a threat at that point.

I’ll be dead in the ground before I call him anything but Robotnik.

I'm not sure how Robotnik sounds "scary". Easy. Give him Jim Cummings' voice.

While I played the older games as a kid, I really was always a Nintendo guy so I only got into the series with Adventure 2 thus I'm more inclined to call him Eggman. If only because it's easier to say. Though I have no clue why with shit like this and with Charlie in Street Fighter companies feel the need to try and get all regions on the same pulse with thus stuff after years of it being different. It's not like the Mario games would suddenly be improved if they began to force a worldwide push to call them Koopa and Rosetta. Granted they did pull that with Peach, but at least in that case it's punchier and everyone called her 'the princess' before that anyway. At least with Peach they never really established a first name so its an easier transition in one's head cannon. Yeah,Princess Peach Toadstool still works since they always treated Toadstool as her last name. With Bowser he was always stated to be the King of the Koopas. So him being King Bowser Koopa would at least make sense as well (even if they usually just call him Bowser in America) Really I feel like when a guy has lost in every single game (except Sonic Chronicles, I guess, but not like they're ever bringing that up again) for the past 30 years, you should probably either make him a joke or stop using him. There's really no salvaging him as a threat at that point. Recurring villains in fiction usually lose. By that logic, they should all be jokes. Yeah... pop culture villains, especially in video games always lose... that's kinda the reason they exist... Is the Joker any less of a character because Batman always kicks his ass and throws him into prison afterwards?

Wow, the quick motivational poster I whipped together in five minutes in 2008 is still going strong. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) And yeah, I don't see how it hurts. He's always had aspects of comedy, he's a fat Teddy Roosevelt in pyjamas who ends every battle with a Looney Tunes burnt face. That he can be mocked makes him no less scary a villain than any other real life dictator who's been parodied. And him owning it and turning it into the 'Eggman Empire', something to be feared, actually works pretty well for his character. I won't argue that Robotnik is a fantastic name too, tying back to the origins of the word robot, but I'm pretty sure if Dean Sitton's original idea had been used - calling him Doctor Badvibes in the west - people would still be somehow arguing it's a better name.
