While I played the older games as a kid, I really was always a Nintendo guy so I only got into the series with Adventure 2 thus I'm more inclined to call him Eggman. If only because it's easier to say.
Though I have no clue why with shit like this and with Charlie in Street Fighter companies feel the need to try and get all regions on the same pulse with thus stuff after years of it being different. It's not like the Mario games would suddenly be improved if they began to force a worldwide push to call them Koopa and Rosetta.
Granted they did pull that with Peach, but at least in that case it's punchier and everyone called her 'the princess' before that anyway.

Same. "Eggman" is a name that only Sonic should ever refer to him as and should have never been canon. Robotnik has always been the cooler name.

True, and they even introduced it that with the letter in Mario 64 going, "Princess Toadstool... Peach." Yeah, it really first came up in Yoshi's Safari but who the hell played that?

Ok. So. Here's my deal.
I've been a Sonic fan since the early 90's, when I was but an elementary school student in the United States.
Since then, I've emigrated to Japan, where the character has only ever been known as Eggman. I've spent the last decade-plus integrating myself into my new country. Learning the language, finding love, getting permanent residency, and continuing to be a video game/Sonic fan the whole time.
...I still refuse to call him "Eggman".

...was only used on the DiC cartoons and things vaguely related to it. He was always Bowser elsewhere in North America. Interesting topic....kind of an aversion of the time when people thought they were cool cause they knew the Japanese names of things.

Eggman just sounds stupid for an evil scientist. Robotnik, given that he builds robots, just makes more sense.

Nintendo lucked out in that Princess Toadstool and King Koopa are easily retconned as titles for Peach and Bowser respectively.
Honestly with Sonic Mania more or less becoming its own sub-series with Sonic, I have no problem generally calling him Robotnik in that pseudo-canon and Eggman in something like Sonic Forces.
