I guess that's what happens when one studio keeps the central base of these characters, and doesn't change everything about them, while the other studio says "f*** it, we're changing everything. Batman will kill, but somehow despite killing mooks with no problem, he'll let Joker live. And Superman will be mopey, broody, and depressed." That was one comment on YouTube that made me laugh. Saying that the only thing DC had over Marvel was that DC were better at doing moody and grimdark.... and then Marvel released A:IW. What I liked was that the ending didn’t feel grimdark or edgy for the sake of it. The MCU’s earned its audience’s trust and there’s a connection with these characters, so Infinity War is this series’s “Wham Episode”.

(and I'm not saying this applies to everyone, but there often seems to be an undercurent of misogyny tothese kinds of comments. just putting that out there). Oh it's happening already. Thankfully not here, but there's a ton of salty comments out there on Reddit, Twitter, etc. about how Carol is a Mary Sue and "SJW Avengers" is going to be all about her.

It's fairly obvious that it's gonna be a team effort to save the day. It's just that Carol's arrival will be one of the many catalysts that help make the team effort happen.

Something I just thought of that made me crack up laughing at work. During the final Wakanda battle, Steve talks to Groot and Bucky talks to Rocket. Both act like these are totally normal conversations. They don't question the fact that they are talking to a tree or a raccoon.

Right. Of course then the conversation that's gonna have to happen at one point where they have to clarify which Captain Marvel. No not that one. No that one. No not that one. No not... Can we also get Genis? Please? I'm just gonna say I have no idea WHERE this attitude comes from because outside of die-hard oldheads nobody in the general public has ever heard of Mar-vell or Genis-Vell at all; if they do know who Billy Batson is they probably just call him Shazam, because that's the only name he's promoted under anymore. Marvel's gone out of its way to push the hell out of Carol since her promotion and by the time this movie comes out she's probably going to be the only Captain marvel anyone's talking about. I understand everybody is somebody's favorite character but the idea that nobody knows who Carol Danvers is or that people would rather watch Mar-vell at this point is utterly farcical (and I'm not saying this applies to everyone, but there often seems to be an undercurent of misogyny tothese kinds of comments. just putting that out there). Your casual fan knows Carol? I didnt say theyd know Genis...clearly they wouldnt. Outside of Shazam though? I guess if they are doin cartoons w Carol Im just outta the loop. Which is fine. Misogyny damn sure doesnt enter into it.

Marvel is savvy for releasing the Captain Marvel movie right before Avengers 4 next year. If not I think this could be Marvel's first real misfire, but since people will need to see that movie before Avengers 4 it will likely make a decent amount of money. It really does feel like they are forcing an ultra overpowered chick into a big role when no one is especially asking for it. It's like going from 0 to 200.

I wouldn't say its a gender thing. More like she's rather obscure to casual audiences who don't recognise her.
Until she recently got pushed as the face of Marvel, most knew her as the person who Rogue absorbed and permanently obtained their powers. I still thought that she went by Ms. Marvel

It's regular as clockwork - popular movie gets strong female protagonist, petty little men on the internet cry "Mary Sue! SJW! Anti-male sexism!" and everybody rolls their eyes.

Something I just thought of that made me crack up laughing at work. During the final Wakanda battle, Steve talks to Groot and Bucky talks to Rocket. Both act like these are totally normal conversations. They don't question the fact that they are talking to a tree or a raccoon. Those were great moments. One criticism I have about the film (and there's not much else) is that most of the jokes fell flat for me after Gamora's death. In fact, the next scene after that is Okoye making a Starbucks joke which had my wife leaning over and saying "too soon." The levity felt out of place for me. Same goes for the humor in the creation of Stormbreaker scene. I did laugh at Steve/Groot and Bucky/Rocket interactions though. Also, although it wasn't so much funny, I loved the scene with Okoye/Widow/Wanda vs. Proxima Midnight. That was the kind of stuff I was looking forward to prior to seeing the film. On that note, I'll also say that the all-female battle had the second-loudest reaction of the viewing, only second to Thor returning to Wakanda with Rocket/Groot. With all this discussion on Larson's Captain Marvel, I could see them making some serious cash with an all-female movie. The only trouble there is explaining how such an event would happen -- I feel like comics and cartoons have done this too many times using the same "spell/sickness/etc. takes out all men/adults/etc." plot point.

When they actually did that joke we were screaming.

When i saw the Marvel United (or whatever it was called) live stage show two or three summers ago she came out to zero reaction. No one, young or old, had a clue who she was.

No offense to Carol, but the only Captain Marvel I ever cared about was Mar-Vell. Closer than me I guess, only Captain Marvel I've ever cared about is Billy Batson. My favorite Captain Marvel was always Monica Rambeau. Speaking of which, with the original Avengers entering their swan song, and Black Panther and Captain Marvel being established as big deals going forward, what are the odds on an Ultimates movie in Phase 4?
