Once in 2009 I waited on Cornette and his wife at a restaurant I was working at after a local indy show. He was super cool, so I asked for a picture, but he said he was too tired. He said he would come by the next day if I was working and take one. I didn’t give it a second thought, but the next day his wife came in and gave me an autographed copy of The Midnight Express Scrapbook, an autographed pic signed by him and all 3 members of The Midnight Express, and a signed Midnight Express DVD.

I'm in the same boat as I suppose most people here, judging from this thread. I enjoy listening to him discuss wrestling history but his opinions on modern wrestling aren't worth my time, I cringe when he talks about it being more 'real' back in the day compared to now.
He also has something in common with Russo in that he can never accept the blame for his failures. Why did Smokey Mountain go under? Because the cartoon gimmicks that people saw on New Generation WWF killed the business. Why did OVW go under? Cause John Laurenitis kept "stealing" "his" talent that he was supposed to train for WWF/E in the first place. Why is Cornette's ROH remembered as a low point in the promotion? Because of "Greg the office boy", oh and of course because Kevin Steen is too fat to get over.
Even Heyman admits ECW going up in flames was ultimately on him alone mismanaging the situation. But I've yet to hear any admissiom to that effect from Corny.

Listen to the recent "Summer of 93" episode of the experience for some examples.

He blames himself for losing money specially for hiring Tim Horner and put him in charge of merchandise, allegedly Horner stole the SMW truck and a lot of money.

I put him in the same category as Meltzer; as a historian, he's great; could listen to him for days. However, personality wise, they're pretty lousy; their opinions are too rigid, and their supporters to unflinching. I don’t get that at all about Meltzer. Dude is less judgmental of WWE product then 3/4 of the people that post in WWE Current. In his younger days, you could definitely call him a “wrestling snob” but now that dude is fairly open minded to all sorts of different wrestling. And other then things that are legitimately pointlessly dangerous, or career shortening you never really say something has no place in wrestling, he realizes every style has its fans even if it’s not his cup of tea

He’d be a great booker for an old-school promotion, but pretty well useless in the modern era. He just doesn’t understand what will work now and the times have passed him by. Combine that with him being an obnoxious asshat most of the time and I have little use for him.

I love Jim Cornette and could listen to him talk for hours. The man is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to wrestling. His biggest "sin" in the wrestling community is not being a fan of certain guys that are popular on the Internet. I'm not remotely saying all wrestling fans are like this, but a large number are grown children who get real-life deeply offended if you don't like every single wrestler or hold every belief about wrestling that they do. If you think I'm being hyperbolic, let me invite you to check out twitter.com.
Unfortunately I've never had a chance to meet him, but I have been in shouting distance of him twice and watched how he dealt with fans. He seemed extremely nice and had time for everyone. Hell, he shared a locker room with Joey Ryan and took the time to shake his hand. So it isn't like he's a classless piece of shit.
Forgive me if someone has already mentioned this and/or I'm wrong, but wasn't his thing with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn about him saying that Zayn should unmask and Owens needed to lose weight to make it? Did WWE not make them do just that?

I have to admit, "wouldn't ya know who won the pony" somehow migrated into my vocabulary, so there's that.

I think Jim Cornette is a great storyteller. His stories about people and events from the past are very entertaining. I think he's a guy that once he gets forms an opinion about somebody (see, Kenny Omega), he doesn't really change his opinion about them, no matter what they do afterwards. That is where I can see where he has his critics.

My family watched NWA/WCW more than WWF at the time and we also saw some AWA and WCCW. There is always a time where folks with views like him need to get current with the times. Not everyone can or will evolve.

"Go piss up a rope!" is now in my vocabulary.
Jim often mentions that he was dying in WCCW because the Express weren't working with the Von Erichs and thus not making the big money. However, Corny managed Rip Oliver, who spent several months feuding with Mike VE.

Same DI that anytime someone did something stupid he would ask them if they were from Ohio. Not sure why but DI Childress thought everyone from Ohio was dumb.

Did WWE not make them do just that? He doesn't just "not like" popular things, he screams about how they should be beaten and shot and run out of the wrestling business. I don't think people would be nearly as put off by his opinions if he didn't deliver them with all of the grace and subtlety of someone who spends every second at a red light revving his motorcycle up just so you know he's there.

After watching Terri's "interview" with Russo you can understand why Cornette hates him, Sure it's overblown at times but you can understand it.

I have to admit, "wouldn't ya know who won the pony" somehow migrated into my vocabulary, so there's that. On a similar note I'm increasingly saying "For the people who like that kind of thing it's the kind of thing those people like" in conversations. I think I listen to Corny far too much!
