I find him endlessly entertaining. I am glad he is all over my YouTube feed. The man is an encyclopedia of wrestling knowledge and maybe the most fanatical wrestling fan in the world.
That said, how dysfunctional is this guy? How many companies has he left or been fired from for personal differences? He literally tried to run down a rival promoter with his car. In a business filled with social misfits, he has to be one of the top 5.

I still honestly wonder how much of his personality is him and how much has become a work of what-the-internet-thinks-Jim-Cornette-is-like that he just plays into.

He is one of the guys in wrestling I am most conflicted by. I find him interesting to listen to, but he can be such a thoroughly unpleasant human being at times.
(Granted, still would pick him over Russo in every single capacity, 10 out of 10 times.)

He is a very smart guy and has forgotten more about the industry than most will ever learn. He’s funny, entertaining, obnoxious and easy to listen to.
But I don’t like how to some people his opinion is gospel and you can’t argue with anything he says.

I think Jim is incredibly smart and quick-witted. I think he is an absolute treasure trove of wrestling history and old-school booking psychology. I think that Jim Cornette could be useful today in a multi-booker scenario, because he would have the ability to offer an old-school perspective that could maybe be freshened up and modernized by a younger mind.
I also think that Jim Cornette is an acerbic asshole at his worst, and while I tend to agree with him politically, he's so cantankerous and hateful in his arguments that he embarrasses those of us in that spectrum that try to build bridges instead of burning them.

I always wonder how much of Corny's public persona is legit and how much is an act. He is one of the few on my list that I haven't gotten to meet yet.

There was always a bit of himself in his on tv persona. But now that his podcasts caught fire he has blurred the lines even further.

Cornette is a lot of "overblow my emotions for gimmick's sake" and you can see that in how he is on his podcast a lot of times versus how he is in the early shoot interviews before he really became A Thing on that front. He has an incredible knowledge of the territory days and he has stories for weeks. He's also got massive, real life anger problems that aren't his gimmick but are actually, really real, and those can't be ignored either when they lash out in some of the directions he's gone in before.

He's obviously a treasure trove of wrestling history, but I'll pass on his whole "Wrestling never needed to get better than it was in 1983" mentality.

I love Jim Cornette.
But I've always said that he's a guy who can identify problems, but not come up with solutions.

I like some of his opinions, and I love hearing the stories of his experiences.
That being said, I completely disagree with his opinion on comedy wrestling today, as some of it I thoroughly enjoy (Chuckie T's hand grenade, the sprinkles, Chikara) and so forth. To me, when he gets all crotchety about it, he sounds like a cranky grandpa.

He's a fantastic performer, but his greatest flaw has always been his struggle with realizing his opinion isn't fact. Cornette knows the logistics, methodology and execution of the type of wrestling he wants to see. It's the southern style he has the most experience in, and while drawing from that talent has been helpful influence in writers rooms for a national product (as well as a proven success within that region such as OVW and SMW), his limitations show when he books for an audience who don't want to see exactly what he wants to see. The most perplexing thing about Cornette to me is how he'll never speak ill of lucha, citing the "cultural difference" of Mexico, but completely will rip wrestling of any other region based on the influence of its environment. Also, his wildly Islamophobic rant from late 2015 is inexcusably vile: www.cagesideseats.com/cageside-seats-features/2015/12/19/10625820/jim-cornettes-islamophobic-views-have-no-place-in-wrestling

I haven't looked at the article you linked, but just reading the apparent title makes me wonder, did anyone ever argue that "Jim Cornette's Islamophobic views have a place in wrestling" to warrant an article saying that they don't? Somewhere, someone said, "You know what wrestling could really use right now? Jim Cornette's Isalmophobic views!" And to those who wonder if the way he acts is real or just a gimmick, all you need to do is ask the people who have worked with/for him in recent years for the answer to that question.

His temper seems too violent for him to be "working" anyone, to me.

Jim Cornette is the greatest living manager in wrestling history. Sadly, the rest are gone. We’re so lucky to have him on podcasts every week. The guy rarely goes over the same stories like some podcasts tend to do. He knows his stuff, even if he can’t relate much to today’s wrestling scene. He’s wildly entertaining. He knows that so he definitely pushes the boundaries at times. Sometimes he’s real. Sometimes he gimmicks things up. We’re not supposed to be able to differentiate between the two and I like that. That’s old school wrestling for you. Haha.
He’s definitely got anger issues and he hasn’t always had the best diet so I’m thankful he’s doing well. I think he’s also a happy person. I’ve met him several times and he’s always been an easy going nice guy. He’ll get loud at times but that’s part of his act. People expect him to. He knows how to command a room. Cornette speaks up and people watch and listen.
He’s also a guy that has a low bs tolerance. He wants things on his terms. I can respect that. He’s old enough and has enough money to where he can make those kinds of demands. If people aren’t happy with that he’s made it crystal clear numerous times that he’s happy to stay home. He’s very much in demand because there aren’t a lot of great wrestling personalities left these days. People that want him will do what it takes to get him out to their shows. I can’t knock him for being able to set up his own deals. We should all be so lucky.

Corny is complex, on some topics he's a voice of reason, but he's also capable of being a dangerous ranting psycho. Some of the stories he tells about his antics promoting in kentucky make me understand completely why Terry Taylor passed on the email threat he made against Russo to TNA management. You can't take the chance he's not just blowing off steam.
He has a great mind fit the promoting side of things, he understands the basics, knows how to make contacts in the local press that can help, he's the main reason that Ring of Honour still exists as they were circling the drain before he came on board, losing millions. That said, he should be kept well, well away from booking as that side of things declined under his watch.

I think alot of it is a work.
The Russo stuff sounds a bit more serious though, whenever he talks about him his voice gets that bit lower, louder and threatening. It's definitely personal with Russo.

I think alot of it is a work. The Russo stuff sounds a bit more serious though, whenever he talks about him his voice gets that bit lower, louder and threatening. It's definitely personal with Russo. It is one million percent real hatred with Russo. They had heat but they managed to patch things up in tna. Then when Jim got fired he blamed Russo for it and that's when it got ugly. People for the most part thought he was exaggerating by blaming Russo but a couple of years ago, an email got leaked and it was Russo contacting Dixie Carter and burying Jim to her. Now I see why he hates Russo so much. Now my opinion about Cornette. I share about 99% of his opinions about wrestling, the only thing we disagree is that he takes it too personal and almost as an insult. Yeah I think the dick spot is an embarrassment to the business but I don't hate Joey Ryan for it. Hate should be reserved for people that f*** with us personally, we shouldn't hate people just by their taste in stuff. Regarding his behavior, Jim himself admitted that he's a crazy f*** with anger problems, he recognizes that he can't be around people for a prolonged period of time because he would snap.
