The most illegal of styles and mastered by Superstar Billy Graham let's talk about the use of "karate" in pro wrestling and how I don't think pro wrestling companies don't actually know what Karate is

Dude, as a judo guy it's even worse. The amount of times Ricky Steamboat would hit a chop and they'd declare it a JUDO CHOP! was endlessly frustrating.

I am on a kick watching it and all, but Cobra Kai would have been a great heel stable.

All I know is that Jerry Flynn’s karate was no match for Goldberg. Dude racked up the wins against the master of Mullet-Do

Like, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm an absolute dilletante in terms of practical martial arts, but striking in general isn't even a big part of judo, yes, let alone dedicated judo chops?

Pedantic jerks will tell you it existed in like, really old manuals of the sport or as part of the kata you learn as part of it but yeah it's a throwing and submission art.

There is Atemi-Waza, but that isn't used in competitions, only specific Kata and self-defense training.

One of Chris Champion's many gimmicks (Yoshi Kwan, Kowabunga, etc) was the Karate Kid. In Florida I think. Maybe Crockett early on.

I think it's at Great American Bash 89.
Cornette on commentary for the Muta match. "Karate chop! Or, Judo chop, I should say".
Yeah.

Has anyone used a "McDojo instructor" gimmick? I feel like that'd generate some heat. Talented yet delusional martial artist who thinks his style is above all. Resorts to non-traditional methods when he starts losing. It would be like the Cobra Kai dude combined with Jean Claude Van Damme's character in No Retreat No Surrender(I hope someone remembers that movie).
I kinda think it's funny how the martial arts gimmick is presented as dangerous, but with all good reason. It's a wrestler with a different style. However, if we apply the concepts of what we know now from mixed martial arts to say the mid to late 1980s pro-wrestling scene, get a takedown on the Great Muta, Kabuki, or even Hiro Matsuda. I know, easier said than done.

My knowledge of karate is limited to back leg front kicks and educated feet.

As a kid, the evolution of Superstar Billy Graham into the Karate master Billy Graham baffled me. I grew up watching him in the WWWF in the mid-late 70's, and he was just oozing charisma. A few years later, I turned on the 6:05p TBS show and couldn't understand what I was watching.
