Here's a question, does pretaping actually cause a negative trend for RAW? It seems to not shift one way or another from what I've noticed with casual glances.

It’s never been a big dip but there is a small dip for taped shows compared to live ones. I thought I read somewhere years ago that they usually can accept a dip for those times for the other benefits of recording a show internationally (a consistent gate, high amount of publicity etc).

So you're saying that WWE typically makes more money off a British show than an American one?

Well, less so that but more they can take the loss of TV revenue for the more consistent and fresh attendances because of the couple times a year WWE goes to those places. It balances out differently, essentially. I could be completely wrong but it was one of the things that lead to the Sky Sports exclusive PPVs for a bit until everyone realized they were essentially filmed house shows.

My own hypothesis has always been that the shows affect the ratings the week after, not the week of. Hearing about a good show will get you to watch next week.

Yeah, there's some shows that were total balls but pulled a decent rating, and shows that went well, but nobody watched and nobody came in. With so many channels and things to do, a show doesn't gather hype and momentum anymore; it's too easy to catch something later unless something insane happens. The ratings are instead an amalgam of random factors, PPV schedule, and in reflection of the general quality of the weeks before. The product is too samey, interchangeable, and repetitive right now for ratings to mean much outside of the general trends involved.
