The trailer for the Andy Serkis directed adaptation of the Jungle Book by Warner Bros. OK. Looks alright. Has a strong cast... looks like a decent adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling book. Well except some of the cgi animals.. But, and let’s face it, no matter if this film is good or bad it’s going to bring up the live action Jungle Book movie by Disney. Plus it’s unlikely that this will not feature Christopher Walken singing .. so Disney win by default Updated title cause it’s on Netflix now.

Looks good. Love the way Bale sounds as Bagheera.

Yeah I'm not sure how much of a success this will be since we just got a Jungle Book movie 2 years ago. Solid cast though.

Finally, the dark gritty f***ing Jungle Book adaptation I've been waiting for.

Looks interesting. Although the CGI is a little f***y looking.
Though I'll say this, Cumberbatch is automatically a better Shere Khan than Idris Elba. Elba doesn't have the range to pull of a character like that.

Good lord, Cumberbatch being directed by Serkis in a motion capture studio. I think I want to see the behind-the-scenes footage more than the movie itself.

We sure this isn't a sequel? Khan looks exactly the same.

Stringer Bell is a different type of menacing than I imagine Shere Khan to be.

I'd be irritated that Kaa, again, is a woman (not that the character HAS to be male, but does Bagheera? They only change the snake), and probably also going to be a villain, again, but the character is maybe a little too nuanced for anyone making a film, not a series, to want to invest the time into trying to do. If you must change one of Mowgli's companions, Kaa is always going to be the easy choice. Doesn't necessarily make it a right one.

I read this as Mogwai and now that I know it's not a gritty Gremlins remake, I hope it bombs.

I was wondering if Kaa was a female snake in the book... since they BOTH did the same change

Guess they just like having female snakes for some reason.

Female snakes are generally larger than male snakes, for all of you wondering about the Kaa gender flip.

Size may be part of it, but I am guessing it's more an issue of how Jungle Book just doesn't really have a whole lot of female characters, so it's probably meant to keep it from being Glengarry Glen Ross in the jungle. Looking it up, no, Kaa was male in the old book. Guess they just like having female snakes for some reason. Yeah, I looked it up back then... should have added. But yeah Kaa was a male also wasn't really an adversary of Mowgli from what I remember Yeah, Kaa was one of Mowgli's allies and mentors, and Mowgli was immune to his hypnosis on account of being a human. Still, I guess they just figure Kaa is the easiest character to change of Mowgli's friends. They at least don't get cut entirely, like the wolves did from Disney's, so they fare better on that front. It just bugs me a bit as a reptiles fan that they are treated as go-to villains so often.
