Anyone else like the storyline? It was an awesome tag team. But if one thing is true, that heel turn killed X-Pac dead.
After this, it was all X-Pac heat for good.
But before the turn, the summer of 1999, X-Pac was on fire.

Yep. That turn is the pinpoint moment it seems wrestling fans en masse just gave up and stopped caring about the guy, who had been very popular prior to that.

My favorite tag team of all time. Not even joking! They had great chemistry. Kayfabe-wise, Pac played a HUGE role in opening up Kane's personality. He was probably Kane's first real friend in WWE. Before that, people had just been using him.

That really annoyed me at the time. 7 months of storyline dropped for the sake of a swerve, and then we got a long and drawn out feud.

I've always theorized that in part why fans grew to turn on Pac so hard was because of this storyline. It was pretty much the story that turned Kane into a truly tragic character rather than just big horror movie monster, and in a way it allowed him to be an underdog unlike pretty much any other point in his career due to his size. It was a feel good story to see Kane make a friend, find love and get a girlfriend, but most importantly have genuine acceptance and happiness for the first time in his life seemingly.
Then Pac took it all away from him. He stabbed him in the back and he turned his love for a woman into a nightmare.
I think the feud dragging out, Pac slowing down in-ring and his character growing ever more stale didn't help matters but I think the betrayal he acted on Kane and by extension the fans was so great that it made his character irredeemable in a lot of fans' eyes.
He essentially became the wrestling version of Fredo Corleone. And like with Fredo, there was no going back.

It was a great tag team, and a really stupid swerve.
You know it's kinda ridiculous when the infamous Green Kane would have actually been a better idea.

This angle blew that wide open, and it was awesome for it.

One of my favorite odd couple teams of all time. I thought the way X-Pac gradually helped Kane become more human was both well booked and genuinely endearing. Having X-Pac turn on Kane to rejoin that lame corporate DX was such a bad move. It killed his WWF career dead.

I had just started watching WWE and they were my first favorite tag team, haha.

I loved the Raw when Undertaker choke slammed X-Pac.
Only for Kane to find out and turn on Undertaker, his own brother.
Was fantastic. First sign of true emotion shown. The camera work was great too showing X-Pac hugging Kane and Undertaker's reaction.

Kane was too popular and was actually evolving his character so Pac's turn on him damaged Pac to a level that he just didn't recover from. They could have realistically turned Pac but they didn't do that. Let alone the fact that he took his girlfriend at the time. It wasn't smart.

I remember early on in their pairing Kane went to use it and X-Pac slapped it out of his hand and said he doesn't need it. Then Kane said 'Suck it' with his real voice. I didn't realize he used the voicebox after that. I remember at the time when that happened it was exciting though.

They should have had a long title reign. Like, what was the logic of giving APA and the pre-Lita Hardys token runs?
Would have been better off than the tag team hot potato that ensued.
