I was watching an early episode of TNA on Twitch and Erik Watts just announced himself the new director of authority.
Really, Erik Watts? That's the best they got? Cheex wasn't available? Afterwards Don West almost busted a testicle announcing Shawn Michaels' cousin would have a match.
How did TNA even get off the ground with stuff like this?
On a cool note, I haven't seen a lot of CM Punk's TNA stuff. It was interesting seeing him here and Matt Sydal as a jobber.

It was fun watching AJ Styles killing it out there every week. Early TNA could be strange but it was also fun. There were a lot of surprise appearances thrown in too. It kept me watching.

Yep, and he lost that power in a match with Don Callis (who has mentioned that a few times on Impact while promoting the GWN app) when Goldy Locks (who was a kayfabe love interest of Erik's at the time) turned heel

Lame? That shit was insanely entertaining.
I remember how there was a sudden shift in production a few months into the first year and it was so glaring.. I just remember the show starting with a segment in a much smaller arena and really dim lights.
It's too bad I didn't have the funds to support the show on a weekly basis because it provided a lot of variety and had it's own goofy identity.

I really dug TNA in its "lame" early days. I was always stoked for the once-a-week PPV thing.

Remember The Johnsons?
Bob Ryder said that originally the costumes were supposed to have pubes. f*** Vince Russo and Jeff Jarrett, they really wanted to advertise themselves as a porn company to sell weekly ppvs.

I won't lie and say it was amazing. There was obviously a lot of really stupid stuff happening. But there was also a lot of fun stuff mixed in and you could easily see the potential of the promotion. They lived up to none of that potential, but I'd gladly take their "lame early days" over the zombie of a promotion it is now.
