Ring of Honor “Summer Heat Tour: Aftershock”
July 12th, 2014
From the Hopkins Eisenhower Community Center in Hopkins, Minnesota
Commentators: Kevin Kelly and Larry Mercer.
Recap of Michael Elgin defeating Adam Cole for the title at Best in the World a few weeks before this show.
Michael Elgin comes out and says the last time he was in this arena he said he would be the champion the next time he came back. He plans on taking care of the Kingdom tonight with War Machine but he also wants to defend his title as well. Adam Cole and the Kingdom come out to “congratulate” him. War Machine comes to the rescue and we have ourselves a brawl and our main event early.
Michael Elgin & War Machine vs. the Kingdom (Adam Cole, Michael Bennett and Matt Hardy) w/Maria Kanellis
This wasn’t a five star classic but the super hot crowd made it very enjoyable. It was pretty chaotic and ended in a disqualification when the Briscoes ran in and attacked the Kingdom.
Winners: no contest
Afterwards Michael Elgin calls Matt Hardy out for a singles match tonight, and Hardy accepts.
reDRagon come out for the Fish Tank. They bring out their guest: Cheeseburger. It’s actually not a bad segment at all and leads to a match between Bobby Fish and Cheeseburger for Fish’s half of the Tag Team Championships.
For one half of the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championships
Bobby Fish (champion) w/Kyle O’Reilly vs. Cheeseburger
This was as competitive as any Cheeseburger match is.
Winner: Bobby Fish
reDRagon are about to hit Cheeseburger with Chasing the Dragon when Cedric Alexander runs out for the rescue.
Kyle O’Reilly w/Bobby Fish vs. Cedric Alexander
This was a really good match despite Cedric Alexander almost killing himself when he botched an attempt at a top rope move.
Winner: Cedric Alexander
The Decade w/TaDarius Thomas vs. the Briscoes
This was a good match but nothing really special.
Winners: the Briscoes
Proving Ground Match for a shot at the Ring of Honor World Television Championship
Takaaki Watanabe vs. Jay Lethal w/Truth Martini
This match didn’t do much for me. I found myself watching cute kittens and babies playing together videos towards the end.
Winner: Jay Lethal
Romantic Touch comes out and Jay Lethal attacks him thinking it’s Matt Taven under the mask. Then Matt Taven comes out through the crowd and attacks Lethal.
Tommaso Ciampa vs. Kevin Steen
Kevin Steen was extra douchy this match. From what I know he left Ring of Honor a week after this show and was in total “not-giving-a-f***” mode. Once the match got going it was really good.
Winner: Kevin Steen
Afterwards Steen thanks the people of Hopkins, Minnesota.
Winner Receives a shot at the Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Championship on August 22nd
TaDarius Thomas w/Jimmy Jacobs vs. ACH vs. Silas Young vs. Matt Taven
This was a decent match but it didn’t hold my attention.
Winner: Silas Young (gets a shot at the Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Championship on August 22nd)
For the Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Championship
Matt Hardy w/Maria Kanellis vs. Michael Elgin (champion)
As far as I know this was Matt Hardy’s last match in this run in Ring of Honor. It wasn’t bad. The last few minutes were well put together.
Winner: Michael Elgin

_____________________________________________________________________
This show started out really strong but after the reDRagon segment(s) it kinda fell off. It wasn’t bad or anything but nothing jumped out at me. The Kyle O’Reilly verses Cedric Alexander match and the Kevin Steen verses Tommaso Ciampa Match were both pretty good matches worth checking out. The crowd got pretty annoying by the end though.
Larry Mercer wasn’t bad at all on commentary and I’m pretty sure he still works for the company as of Spring 2018. I wouldn’t mind hearing him call matches again.
