They just didn't really think this through at all. I can't see only having six months to change your entirely CGI main character not goin badly.

What actually probably happened. The "I know better" attitude of higher ups in Hollywood are truly astounding. "I don't get the design of Sonic, so change it because I KNOW BETTER THAN EVERYONE!" That's DCEU mentality. |

From the director of the movie: If they change the look and it looks good, I'd go see the movie just out of respect to them actually changing it. |

Every time an executive tries to change anything in a comic/anime/video game property, they should be shamed out of the business and into exile.

There would have been multiple opportunities at each stage of the creative process for the studio to realise Sonic looks like shit. The fact they only realised after the trailer was released shows their stupidity,

If they wanted to do something, they would have done something a LONG time ago. I can’t buy that a marketing team would be that smart. Considering the dozens of years of people ignoring others who knew better but were on a lower position. |

I'm sure this was a marketing ploy to get some sorta meme Though Jim Sterling had a good point... they sent standees to the theaters already with the old design so either they wasted a ton of money on this for a cheap stunt or they are quickly trying to fix it. |
