They just didn't really think this through at all. I can't see only having six months to change your entirely CGI main character not goin badly.

What actually probably happened. The "I know better" attitude of higher ups in Hollywood are truly astounding. "I don't get the design of Sonic, so change it because I KNOW BETTER THAN EVERYONE!" That's DCEU mentality.

From the director of the movie: If they change the look and it looks good, I'd go see the movie just out of respect to them actually changing it.

I can only hope they already knew this was going to get slammed and that the process had already begun, because yeah, they're f***ed unless they delay, otherwise.

I will agree with this IF they delay the movie to next year to give the VFX team time to do that. If they’re trying to get it done in six months then, well, f*** all that.

It still just amuses me that they looked at Sonic's design and said, "Well, we HAVE to change that!"
Idiots.
Every time an executive tries to change anything in a comic/anime/video game property, they should be shamed out of the business and into exile.

It’s weird. Because changing it is probably the right idea...But it’s still so combustible. Because..if the design isn’t overwhelmingly better or even worse.......O.O.F.

The fact they only realised after the trailer was released shows their stupidity, I would not doubt that some of the animators brought it to the attention of those above them only to be told them it was fine.

They could avoided so much trouble if they just made it like this:
(Yes, I made this. Don't judge me.)

Also this.
Since even Sega was said to be unhappy with the design months ago... I'm sure this was a marketing ploy to get some sorta meme

If they wanted to do something, they would have done something a LONG time ago. I can’t buy that a marketing team would be that smart. Considering the dozens of years of people ignoring others who knew better but were on a lower position.
