Only bumping this because, funnily enough, the reason FOX sold most of their production arm was to finally go through with their bid to get BSkyB in the UK raise their stake in something they've never fully owned. They've been outbid for this by...Comcast. Cocmcast really is an evil empire, ain't they?

Just the comic book fan in me here, but once this happens, is Spider-Man (and his associated characters) the only Marvel IP that Disney won't entirely own?

I think this is accurate, but I thought there was a wrinkle with the Fantastic Four rights and Constantin Films. I don't know that there has been confirmation one way or another. comicbook.com/marvel/2017/12/14/marvel-characters-ownership-rights-infographic/

It'll be really interesting to see what happens with/after Infinity War 2.
I wonder if there are people pushing for a Secret Wars-type movie where the disparate Marvel-associated continuities cross-over and eventually merge. It could be fun. The X-Men, the Avengers, the Defenders, both Fantastic Fours, Blade, all three Spider-Mans, and multiple Hulks. Toss in cameos from Ben Affleck's Daredevil, the 70's Hulk and Spider-Man, Blade, so many different Punishers, a couple of Venoms, and have all the weirder stuff explained away by Deadpool.
Movie ends with bits and pieces taken from each of the different continuities and an almost total recasting thanks to the Beyonder (played by Christian Bale, Val Kilmer, and George Clooney).

If the MCU uses movies from other continuities I'd be completely shocked.

I am going to need Universal to stop being stubborn and let Marvel have Namor. Bring on the damn Namor film please!

But who has the rights to Tigra?! Marvel. There had been some rumours about her appearing in Captain Marvel, but that seems like it's not the case.

Now people can feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I can tell, Disney isn’t proposing a full merger with 20th Century Fox. It’s a purchase, so the existing company will continue to exist under new ownership. Obviously, some properties will transfer (Marvel gets the Marvel stuff, odds are no more Fox animated children’s movies if they even still did so and a few others) but Fox is going to continue on as Fox much like Lucasfilm still exists as its own entity, run by its own people, just owned by Disney. I can’t see them sacking a popular show like Family Guy, or Archer, or It’s Always Sunny just because they’re owned by Disney now. Roseanne said some horrible things, not in the context of a tv show, or a comedy sketch. As her, by her. Unless Seth McFarlane decides to tweet out tomorrow “Jews are what’s wrong with Hollywood” or something equally as awful, his offensive humour is in the context of the show and I think they’re gonna leave him be and keep it under the Fox umbrella. At least, that’s my read on things. The latter does get tricky sometimes, though. What was the company line for the Attitude Era? "An on-screen personality is the person turned up to 11." I'm not saying everyone is like this, but we know that more often than not, what you see on a show reflects what the creator/writer thinks.

With Dark Phoenix getting pushed to Summer 2019, and this deal now looking to close in January, there's a good chance it never sees the light of day. Some people think it'll stream, and maybe one day it will, but Disney spent $0 making it so they have no reason to try to make any money back on it. All it serves to do is get these X-Men back in the public consciousness, which isn't beneficial to Disney at all because they'll want space in between this and their reboot.

Some people think it'll stream, and maybe one day it will, but Disney spent $0 making it so they have no reason to try to make any money back on it. All it serves to do is get these X-Men back in the public consciousness, which isn't beneficial to Disney at all because they'll want space in between this and their reboot. Disney will still ultimately be financially responsible for Dark Phoenix, as they're buying 20th Century Fox in its entirety, not just its assets, and will continue to run it as its own business, so it will all depend if they're willing to write off the estimated $225 million already spent on it. Marvel also have no plans to rush the X-Men into the MCU, and are prioritising the Phase Four projects (Spider-Man 2, Black Widow, GOTG3, Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2, Eternals) first. It could be as late as 2024 before we see the X-Men appear under the MCU banner. The understanding is that until they keys to the studio are handed over to Disney Fox will continue to run as if nothing has changed because there is still a small chance that a hitch could sink the deal (China has not yet ratified the sale, for example) and that anything that is on the slate or goes into production before Disney officially take over will be released.
