Not talking about suspensions, but outright bans where they had no way of practicing their sport.
I just watched I, Tonya and thought of this since Tonya Harding got banned from competitive ice skating after her scandal.
Muhammad Ali is possibly the most famous one though of course he later was allowed to box. Also, I can’t recall if it was actually a ban or if just every US boxing commission refused to give him a license.
Jesse Owens is another who got black balled from running for accepting endorsements. He then turned into a a bit of a carney and raced against horses instead as well as promoted an exploitation movie.

English runner Dwain Chambers. For some reason they never clarified that in addition to 8 years ban from competition (seriously?) He was banned FOR LIFE from the Olympics despite doing better than ever when he pissed clean on his comeback, and his appeal never went through either
And I guess I'll be the guy to say that Michael Jordan was given a "time out" by David Stern because of his gambling
Or the Mafia if you believe those rumors
I think the whole situation with his dad was the wake-up call, but there was no way that he couldn't have just paid off any debts himself. I seriously think that something was about to blow up in the media about Jordan's behavior (he was going to AC immediately before ECF games against the Knicks) and Stern cut it off at the pass by banishing Jordan to Double A.
Paavo Nurmi's Olympic career ended when a council stated that he's a professional days before the 1932 Olympics. His professional status was never declared. At the time he held the world records in 5000 and 10000 meters and was one of the biggest favourites to win gold in 10k and the marathon.
