Vince blew his own limo up to stick it to Stone Cold Steve Austin, four years after Austin retired...

The hobo army was sadly not true, but Rod McMahon being involved and Bruce Campbell being at the funeral were both true.
I remember one of the writers from the time saying they weren't 100% on where the storyline would go (because Vince likes to change things constantly) other than it would have involved Kennedy.

Does anyone know what the actual endgame of that was? Vince was faking his death because people thought he was going crazy, or something? According to Bruce Prichard, yes it was to kill the Mr McMahon character for good. That monday night raw was supposed to be about Vince's funeral, Ash from Evil Dead was gonna do a cameo and so would Vince's brother Rod McMahon. Bruce was also asked about the rumor that Vince was gonna return as a hobo, Bruce said that it was never discussed in the writers meeting.

How I heard it was:
Prior to the Benoit incident, the funeral on Raw was to feature many members of Vince's real-life family, including his real-life brother Rod.
At some point, a taped message from Vince was to play having him reveal that he had a third secret child that he kept hidden from Shane and Stephanie. And that this other McMahon was in line for a part of the inheritence just as much as they were.
Eventually, it was to be revalled that Mr. Kennedy was the secret son, and Kennedy vs HHH at WrestleMania.
I honestly think this is why they switched to Hornswoggle when Kennedy was suspended. Both Kennedy and Swoggle are both from Wisconsin. But that part was never part of the Swoggle character, so what do I know?

I thought it was done because A. it was better than going with Triple H and B. it was the easiest cop out they could come up without having it be a bullshit one like Khali or something.

The idea of Ken Kennedy of all people fighting for control of the company makes me shudder.
In fact, the entire story makes no sense. I dont get why Vince would want to fake his death and give someone else.. Huh?
Would be cool if Vince came back as a zombie and would do silly things like booking odd matches or eating peoples brains.

Wow, that storyline would have made Ken Anderson a much bigger star (even if he would have been squashed like a grape by Trips). Sucks for him.

Use the Necronomicon to bring Vince back. 2.) Cross-promotion with USA original series Burn Notice. These are guesses on my part.

I miss when Raw had actual cliffhangers that made the Internet go wild and feel like a kid again, waiting for next week’s episode.
Hell, I just miss when ANYTHING happened on Raw.

I miss when Raw had actual cliffhangers that made the Internet go wild and feel like a kid again, waiting for next week’s pisose. Hell, I just miss when ANYTHING happened on Raw. RUSSELL: So, what have you two come up with? JERRY: Well, we've thought about this in a variety of ways. But the basic idea is I will play myself- GEORGE: (Interrupting) May I? JERRY: Go ahead. GEORGE: I think I can sum up the show for you with one word: NOTHING. RUSSELL: Nothing? GEORGE: (Smiling) Nothing. RUSSELL: (Unimpressed) What does that mean? GEORGE: The show is about nothing. JERRY: (To George) Well, it's not about nothing. GEORGE: (To Jerry) No, it's about nothing. JERRY: Well, maybe in philosophy. But, even nothing is something. GEORGE: Yeah, but nothing happens on the show. You see, it's just like life. You know, you eat, you go shopping, you read.. You eat, you read, You go shopping. RUSSELL: You read? You read on the show? JERRY: Well, I don't know about the reading.. We didn't discuss the reading. RUSSELL: All right, tell me, tell me about the stories. What kind of stories? GEORGE: Oh, no. No stories. RUSSELL: No stories? So, what is it? GEORGE: (Showing an example) What'd you do today? RUSSELL: I got up and came to work. GEORGE: There's a show. That's a show. RUSSELL: (Confused) How is that a show? JERRY: Well, uh, maybe something happens on the way to work. GEORGE: No, no, no. Nothing happens. JERRY: Well, something happens. RUSSELL: Well, why am I watching it? GEORGE: Because it's on TV!!!!

“Can’t be on TV if I’m dead, pal.”
Sounds like Undertaker's default text message when they try to ask him to make a appearance.

Wasn't there a rumor that the Jackass guys were gonna be apart of it? They were signed on for a separate angle with Umaga and Jeff Hardy, I believe, to the point that they were on promotional posters for SummerSlam, but I think the Benoit situation put them off any further commitment.

I believe that McMahon's will was going to be read and it would be revealed that he was going to leave the company to Kennedy who would be revealed at that point that Kennedy was Vince's illegitimate son. Vince would come back at some point I think to reveal he staged his death to make sure he kept WWE away from HHH and Stephanie and this was going to lead to HHH vs Kennedy at Mania. This, plus Rod McMahon would've appeared at the "funeral" on the RAW that was changed to the Benoit show. Part of me would love to know more about what that damn morbid thing was going to be like before.....real life reared its horrifying head their way. There were a ton of alumni in town that night (DiBiase did an interview shortly afterwards saying as much), so I'd love to know how they planned to fill a 2-3 hr show for a very fake funeral.

Vince's plan was to kayfabe the business on the whole and not appear out in public or during shareholder things, just completely deep six to sell the story, and then he was going to return with, no f***ing joke, a hobo army. Prichard laughed his ass off at this suggestion. Pretty sure it’s not true it's still real to me.

That's what happens when you go ON THE RECORD with the media stating WWE is a totally drug free environment, only literally days later being outed as a buyer of banned substances.

I remember as a kid thinking Coach definitely did it since Vince started going in a different direction and Coach pointed him the other way towards the limo that killed him.
