It's hard to believe due to how terribly mishandled the Invasion was but Vince McMahon legitimately wanted to recreate WCW in his own vision and he truly wanted it to succeed. He was ready to give the RAW timeslot to WCW programming and make Smackdown the WWE's flagship show. The Buff Bagwell debacle helped put an end to those plans but I do remember this episode of Smackdown that aired the same week as that match and both were pretty solid.

It was very imperative that they debuted the new WCW in the Southern wrestling hotbed of Tacoma, Washington instead of the next week in Atlanta

The second video was the first official match for Charles Robinson in the WWE, right? What an incredible boon for WWE to get this guy from the WCW buyout, he's always been the best ref ever for any match.

Show up early or hang around in the arena after TV and he's there with the ring crew getting everything ready.

I find it tough to believe that he truly wanted it to succeed when one bad match with a guy who wasn't known for being a great worker completely derailed all their plans. Yeah they didn't have many big names but really there were plenty of other solid hands that could have filled Bagwell's spot. Hell he could have asked any one of the Radicalz who was going to put on a good match. Then there's the bit that was mentioned above about them not waiting one week until they were in Atlanta, the home of WCW where even a mediocre match would likely be cheered. Seriously though, to write off an entire company off the back of Buff Bagwell? Vince couldn't have been that committed.

Given how much WCW scorched the earth of the southern states during 1999-2000 I'm not sure that a WCW themed show would have had a good reaction at all in Atlanta. It was really those states that they killed off the fastest, and when you kill off your original home territory there's nowhere to go.

I remember feeling so badly for Helms in that match. In those last weeks of WCW he was getting a major push with an entrance that included loads of pyro and the Nitro Girls-and then he just has a glittery robe.

Hell, on (I think it was..) the first season of Tough Enough, Chad Patton or Mike Chioda or one of them were showing them how to put the ring together.

Now today marks 17 years when this match happened on Heat: www.youtube.com/watch?v=puvoFQ3afg0The Stasiak Kanyon team didn't make much sense to me, why didn't they pair Stasiak with Jindrak? And that F-5 by Sean O'Haire
