I am genuinely stunned this is getting positive reviews because it just looks absolutely awful to me. I dunno. Maybe if the word of mouth on it's good I might give it an actual shot. Certainly not going to be opening weekend though. Yeah the trailers have all looked like ass and just looked like a bunch of pale imitations of the characters’ comic versions to me. I do find it funny how this film’s trailers looked like ass but the film is apparently good but Suicide Squad had great trailers and is ass, though. A lot of your enjoyment is going to hinge on how much you care that they're faithful to the comics. Cuz they really ain't.

A buddy of mine who reviews movies greatly enjoyed it, and didn't care for JOKER. I also didn't like JOKER all that much, so I'm probably gonna check this out, I guess.

I've got a question about violence in the movie. My mom wants me to take her to it (she loves Harley Quinn, especially Margot Robbie's take on the character) but is worried a bit about the violence. Last year there was an escape attempt by some prisoners and they viciously murdered my mom's friend's son who worked there (not a guard, mind you, a mechanic). The details of the murder were recently made public and so it's very much still on everyone's minds. That said, is the violence more cartoony, or more realistic? If it's realistic or even Tarantino-esque I think we'll sit this one out for a bit. If you're worried about spoilers, please just message me your reply or put them in spoiler tags here. yeah it's pretty gorey at points, like a lot of {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}slit throats and people getting shot and blasted with darts and crossbows. Oh, and there's a scene towards the beginning where a person's face gets cut off with a knife so... That's mostly what I meant when I said it did a lot more than Joker to deserve an R rating. Probably best for her to sit this one out. I really appreciate the feedback here, thank you.

It's a fun time, but if you're looking for comics accuracy, you're not going to find much here really. Harley is the closest I guess as much as she was in Suicide Squad. Montoya, Huntress, and Canary all have bits and pieces and are close to the spirit of the characters but are definitely different versions. Cassandra Cain is Asian but that's literally the extent of similarity to the comics.

Yeah, Gail Simone (one of the main writers of the BoP comics for those that don't know) has nothing but praise for this film. But from other people... the most negative reactions to this being... there's really no reason for that character to be Cassie.

Well, it certainly can't be said this film was boring. I might throw up a blog post with a longer review but short and simple, I liked it. I had ZERO expectations going in and I have to say that it was a fun time. Comic accurate? Eh, depends on what you consider comic accurate. Harley, definitely feels like nu-52 and beyond Harley, like her or love her. Huntress, yeah, especially by the end Dinah, yeah, probably my favorite character in the film Renee, ehhhhhhh, kinda? Cassie? f*** no.

In a way I think they did themselves a disservice making the character Cassandra. If you just had her be some random kid, general audiences are going to be fine with it/not care either way.
As is, all you really do by naming her that is make people that do really care about that character mad cuz there's nothing there at all.
They do A bit of a nod to her being mute the first time she shows up; but it's literally like 2 seconds before she starts talking.

Probably; cuz this is a Harley movie they welded Birds of Prey onto. So I'm guessing they had 2 ideas and just smashed em together.
Like if this was No Doubt, Harley is Gwen and the others are the rest of the band that you don't know anything about.

Misses the point of her character completely If The Joker wasn't around any longer to influence her, she would have eventually turned sane and settled down, that's established in the DCAU. Doesn't exactly scream 'where's the money at with her otherwise?', but at least it's an honest and logical scenario.

Her being sane and going to live a normal life was never, ever in the cards either on the page or screen no matter the continuity though. She's far too popular.
It's like the logical thing would be for Bruce Wayne to go to therapy to help him deal with his trauma and then use his fortune instead to fix the infrastructure and systemic problems of Gotham rather than dressing up and beating the shit out of people.

That, and I mean, the point of characters evolves over time. First appearance Selina Kyle has very different motivations and methodology than current Selina would. I'm fine with Harley not being a glorified accessory Joker breaks out if he feels like it, and even then, most of the best episodes of B:TAS with her show she had more going on than that, anyway.

He actually does do the bit with his fortune, has been shown frequently to use it to help solve Gotham's problems, but status quo always rears its head.

Even in the DCAU the time she was shown retiring was far in her future. You could do that with any character if you're ending their story.

We've seen Bruce Wayne's that will retire once the injuries get to be too much and we've seen where he'll merely turn Gotham into a police state as well. Personally don't care one way or another, Harley has never been one of my favorite characters but I can see where people who are might not like her changes over the years.

I just find her boring without The Joker, there's the Ivy thing but I've never liked that pairing either.
