One person's opinions who I trust on these things (our tastes in the movies line up more or less) said there was a lot she liked about it and a couple of things she didn't.

Yeah, my expectations are "Probably not as good as the original trilogy but much better than the prequels" which so far TFA and TLJ have managed, though I did like ROTS more than TLJ.

My expectations are "better than the midichlorian-driven microbiotic world" nonsense Lucas dreamed up for his version of the sequels.

I'm expecting to enjoy this. I loved TFA and mostly liked TLJ, so I'm at the very least it should be a good time at the movies. Even if this totally sucks (which I don't think is likely), it's not going to "kill" my fandom for Star Wars in the slightest.

I've read some awful things about this and it doesn't really surprise me. I've thought ever Star Wars movie Disney has done has been f***ing terrible. The Mandalorian is he exception (Not a movie, but whatever...).
And I'm not trusting anyone who throws out that shit about this movie bringing them to tears. I heard a ton of people say the same about Last Jedi. Which, to be fair, I wanted to cry too, but mainly because it damn near ruined the whole franchise for me.

When all is said and done, no matter how good or bad TROS is, I hope Disney decides to tell some other kinds of stories that are set in the Star Wars universe. The Empire, the Rebellion, the First Order, the Resistance, smugglers, bounty hunters, crime lords, the Dark Side, and the Force--it's all old hat.
Kathleen Kennedy, please, give me something like Kramer vs. Kramer or Jerry Maguire or Dirty Dancing or Moonlight, but set in the Star Wars universe.

“Looking forward” to people throwing fits if critics on whole enjoy this. Well it's currently 57% on Rotten Tomatoes, so it's not looking likely to be a critical hit. Only 22 reviews so far though, so we'll see.

“Looking forward” to people throwing fits if critics on whole enjoy this. As if anyone still cares what shills think. I liked The Last Jedi, but I actually respect and don't mock those that don't. The Last Jedi has a lot of terrible moments, Force Awakens has a lot of terrible moments, and I know this one will have a lot of terrible moments regardless if I enjoy it or not, and if those people can point that out and argue against them well enough (which happened with Last Jedi) I'm going to give them kudos even if I disagree with them. I'm secure enough in my own enjoyment to do that. Anyone who doesn't do that simply isn't.

Critics who loved TLJ seem to dislike it the most. Consensus seems to be that they played it too safe and tried to do too much.
The low rating still surprises me, but we'll see.

Gonna be interesting to see the box office numbers. It'll be a success regardless but fans turned off by the Last Jedi might not be inclined to see it any time soon, and if there's enough mixed word of mouth, it might affect those who did enjoy TLJ too. I typically wouldn't even consider less and impressive numbers as a possibility, but after Solo bombed, its not as out of the question as it was once upon a time.

I wonder how the Last Jedi detractors (the “hardcore” ones making clickhate videos on YouTube and harassing people on Twitter, mind you) will reckon with the fact that ROS is getting bad reviews.

Honestly RoS feels like a film that will end up not really pleasing anyone. Various TLJ detractors have already written the franchise off with a sense that its too little too late to save it, and given that the reviews suggest a very messy course correction after Episode 8, people who liked TLJ will probably like it even less.
