Too many damn recasts and reboots.
Why can’t they just keep a Joker and stick with it?

Too many damn recasts and reboots. Why can’t they just keep a Joker and stick with it? Well, Heath Ledger died, and Jared Leto was overwhelmingly disliked.

They've posted some footage of him walkin around, and mannerisms wise I'm encouraged.

Dark and gritty. lol Oh DC. Never change. I mean, whatever lead up to him becoming the Joker pretty much HAS to be grizzly. Does it though? I dunno, more modern takes on the Joker are conflicting for me. A Joker who's overwhelmingly murderous and kill crazy like he is in today's comics doesn't do it for me. Far too over the top. It's not inaccurate to complain about Batman being treated like an overhyped god of a character, but honestly overhyping the Joker much the same seems even worse. He's a member of the Legion of Doom, not its leader/prime threat. A big part of what makes the Joker work (for me, at least) is that the simple visual is what should scare you - hell, people are scared of clowns for almost no other reason than how they look - what he does to be evil is almost after the fact. A guy who looks like a clown in a purple business suit killing people who could kill you with odd tricks & gags or a smiling toxin is terrifying. Getting into his origins.....we get it already, almost doesn't need to be told the final product is more than enough. Teasing the topic ("you wanna know how I got these scars?") is more fun than actually digging into why he is the way he is and explaining what mystery could entertain us just as much.

While DC's overall track record is dismal, the one thing they haven't done so far is dumb down the sensational costumes and unusual characters. He'll be the iconic Joker at some point, most likely Act 3.

We will get some Joker (the laugh, maybe some inspiration for his look) but nothing full on concrete. Hell, he might not go crazy until the end which is kind of weird because isn't this completely separate from the Leto Joker therefore separate from the DCEU unless they try to include it after Flashpoint

I still think the dude from Shameless did an amazing job as the prototype Joker, Jerome on Gotham

This is like elseworlds. It's a stand-alone movie. It's verbatim part of why Joaquin agreed to it. Even if it was a raging success, I doubt he'd wanna be part of some multi-movie "cinematic universe".

I can pretty much guarantee that's how it's gonna go. It being an origin, you're definitely not getting that luscious tan, those ruby lips, and hair so natural only your undertaker knows for sure till the end.
