we watched this movie in my world politics class.
And Denise Richards may be beautiful...but she's a horrible horrible actress.

I love how the propangada vid at the end has the random act of violence against a mountain.

Oh good lord...
As a Heinlein fan or many, MANY years, you guys are praising a horrid movie that made Robert A. Heinlein roll in his grave.
Read the book, at least, if you care to praise the movie (I certainly enjoyed Michael Ironside delivering the "violence doesn't solve anything" stuff), because it is FAR superior to the travesty that was the movie.

I dont know why this movie gets so much hate. Maybe its cause I never read the book, but the movie's got violence, good effects, some hot broads, some nipples, and I found it entertaining. Thumbs up from me.

Thumbs up from me. Bad acting, retarded plot, and unlike most campy, cheesy movies of this ilk, the movie seems to be made with an unrelenting (and inappropriate) sense of gravitas, like the the producers thought they were reimagining Aliens, ignorant of the camp value they were shoehorning in by the metric ton. Camp that can't revel in being camp is painful. Jed Shaffer ~Plus, the hot chick with the kinky hair who gets nekkid? Yeah, totally not worth it.

I had to watch this film years after I originally saw it to get the point that humanity was in a quasi-fascist state at the time, with the whole line of propaganda and the "Military Service equals Citizenship" messages.
But I loved the satirical propaganda, such as the one infomercial with the happy music in the background where the kids are stomping on the beetles on the street, and the other where 'Each day, scientists are finding new ways to kill Bugs' while a guy in a white lab coat plunges some scary looking device into the bug's face, etc.
Now, if they threw in a commercial for "I'd buy that for a dollar", it'd been even better.

Who am I to scoff at free (hey, I watched it On Demand a few months ago) nudity and explosions? It was still fun for me And it WAS worth it, but, I wanted more. And Denise Richards

This film is one of the reasons that I love STarCraft so much, because the Zerg reminded me of the bugs.
StarCraft did have a better plot, though. And the Terran Science Lab, with the operator that sounded just like Mr. Burns.

it didn't have to be a masterpeice, and i didn't even know they made a a book out of it. but it is so over the top, that its what makes it Awesome. Actually, I think the book was published back in 1959. I haven't read the book, but the Heinlein stuff I read when I was a kid was pretty good. I thought the movie was pretty good, but I like B movies and it had a definite B movie feel to it, and it had Michael Ironside. "This is for all you new people: I only have one rule. Everyone fights. No one quits. You don't do your job, I'll shoot you myself. You get me?" There was one thing that always bothered me about the movie though, probably because it was in the book written back in 1959. Mankind had interstellar travel, but they still had mostly conventional weapons. And yes, I was one of the people unfortunate enough to sit through Starship Troopers 2 and wonder just what in the blue hell it was that I was watching. I haven't heard much about Starship Troopers 3 except that it films this upcoming year. I hope it's better than number 2 ...
